Quick question about patch sequence

Post by MrsWargamer »

I feel stupid even asking this question, but oh well, it's not like that doesn't happen in my day anyway :)

When performing a fresh install of the game, is a person required to install earlier patches/updates?

Yes I said it would sound like a question from a clueless person.

Today while performing a fresh install, my 1.01 patch file insisted I needed Java. Wouldn't install for love of money.
So being of a mind to just keep fussing, I installed the next patch file, and seemingly no trouble. Both 1.02 and 1.04 installed fine (apparently). Now I have heard that Java is being messed with by our beloved Windows creators, so I can assume that might be it. But now I am wondering, do I even need to fuss with patches other than the new 1.07 in the first place?

It would certainly be nice if I could discard the earlier patches as not worth retaining.

Not related to the patches, but rather than make a new thread over it.
But I am using Avast Home edition, with a vanilla install and it is fully current and updated. I have all the options active (I like protection). I'm using Win XP and I have installed SP3 as well.
Normally I listen to my anti virus. But it's telling me I have a trojan the second I go to run the game. It also mentioned the trojan concluding the install. I can't get the game to run until I turn off the antivirus (which understandably is not thrilling sounding).
I personally think the anti virus is incorrect. The files are old burns to disk.
Has anyone else reported anything similar?
I'll just take the system offline to play if I need to, I am just curious why it is now happening.
