Confused on DLC unit progression

Post by Dual_CoRed »

Fought my first battle in the Stilicho campaign. Named all my units (took 15 minutes) and won the battle after a tough fight. However, at the next battle none of my named units were there. Do the named units carry over from battle to battle? Also, how are you able to tell which units are upgraded?

The names should remain if I’m not mistaken. You mentioned tough fight. Did many of them rout or lose a lot of men?
Is your next battle playing another army and not your core army? Some situations lead to that.

In the Campign decision screen, the upper left box will tell you which units got upgraded along with the battle results. Units need to have both experience and elan to be at the required level. Fractions don’t lead to upgrade. Example, raw unit with 50 Exp and 50 Elan needs to have at least 100 Exp and 100 Elan to upgrade to the average version. The exp and elan levels at the end of each battle are exact numbers and not rounded and may not be even. These numbers are kept under the hood by default.

Final note, not all units have this progression. Many units still stay the same (visual model and equipment) despite increasing in experience and elan. They do get better but they still use the same unit entry in the squads.csv file.

As Jayson says, one possible reason is that in the next battle it wasn't your field army fighting. (This would be indicated in the campaign stage information screen). The names would then reappear when you fight the next battle involving your field army.

Another possible reason is that in some of the historically-based campaigns the field army can be reset after some stages for historical reasons, in which case the named units would have been disbanded.
