EIR Archer Basing Question

Post by BrianC »

I am just finished up 16 Early Imperial Roman archers I bought which are Corvus Belli and am looking at basing them. Can someone please tell me if the EIR archers should be based 2 to a base or 3?

Thanks

Thanks for the info Fulgrim. I needed some archers for my Late Republican Roman army but could not find any but found the Corvus Belli ones readily and thought they would work in a pinch. I can always use them when I build my EIR army. But it looks like basing could be an issue for both armies so I might just temporarily base them as LF to give me 8 bases.

Does anyone know where I can find Late Republican archers?

Thanks

Brian

During the Late Republic, Roman generals hired mercenary auxiliary archers from places like Crete, Greece, Numidia and Syria. So LF figures for any of those would work just fine.

Thanks Scott. No wonder I was having a hard time finding Late Republic Roman Archers  . I was going to place a small order with 50 Paces and will add some Numidian Archers and will try and track down Cretan Archers

I did find online some Cretan Archer miniatures. Xyston sells some very nice ones. But I have heard that they are huge in comparison to everyone else. Has anyone used a mix of Xyston and other 15mm brands? I would love to order them but am worried about the size difference.

I also saw that Minifigs sells them but there are no pics, has anyone bought these and how do they look once painted up?

Thanks

Xyston is about 18mm or so. Have their cretans and they dont mix well with say true 15mm like Essex. Im using Essex´s.

The Xyston Cretan Archers are very nice looking, and I have 'employed' a BG of them for my own Caesarian army. They are indeed 'large 15s,' although still a bit smaller than the Testudo figs making up the rest of my army. They should look fine with most of the larger ranges of 15mm minis.

Here is a pic of the Xyston Cretans, painted by someone else, that I found on the web: http://wargames.spyz.org/merc/cretan01.jpg

Cheers,
Scott
