Guys,
Is there any discussion regarding a list of units with their melee rate?
Would be nice to know each melee capability of any single unit.

There is a list of units in the Editor. If you mouse over them it will show you their capabilities.dkalenda wrote:Guys,

Note: Units do not have numerical melee ratings. The calculations are all done on the number of men, the unit capabilities and the situational factors.

Thanks for reply,
the editor isn't detailed enough, i.e. but how can I know ecatly how much 480 Hastati are better of 480 Poeni soldiers, or 480 Mercenary Hoplites?
Bye

As I say, there are no numerical combat ratings because (a) they are not used in the combat calculations and (b) they would be misleading.dkalenda wrote:Thanks for reply,

The relative points costs give a general guide to the overall value of units, but much depends on the specific circumstances and match-ups.
Examples:
Steady Hoplites will be essentially frontally invincible vs lancer cavalry, but are likely to lose vs hastati. This is mainly because of the Impact Foot capability of the Hastati. Hastati, however, are somewhat more vulnerable to lancer
cavalry (although they will still usually win).
Poeni foot will probably lose against hoplites or hastati in open terrain, but (being Medium Foot) would have the advantage vs hoplites in rough terrain, and probably hold their own against hastati in rough terrain.
Much depends on the POAs (points of advantage). You can see these if you CTRL-L click on a unit on the battlefield. (Including in the editor - place a unit on the map and then CTRL-L click on it). The other major factor is Terrain - which differentially disorders different troop types.
Also I recommend watching Michael Chung's series of videos which go into this stuff in much more detail: http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 77&t=81192
