OOB vs panzer corp

Post by kingstuart »

forgive me but i have to ask. have played panzer corp quite a bit and panzer general to death.

how does this game stack up against it?
what additions does this game bring to a panzer corp game
why do you like and play it?

i have read a couple of articles on the subject but looking for the players to give me there viewpoint.
thanks

The game is played on a larger scale than PC or PG
Op. Barbarossa has over a dozen maps in the PC, here only 4 maps
This is a game at operational level, while those games are typically tactical games
In OoB, you can break the front line and encircle enemy units.
In addition, there is also an element of maintaining supply lines and lack of supply, which results in inability of the encircled unit to fight
OoB is a more complex game and better in my opinion
Plus, there are interesting campaigns - for example: winter war 1939-40 and continuation war with Soviets 1941-44 , the war in the Pacific (from both sides) or the war in Burma in 1942-45

Two things come to mind quickly [mind you, I discovered OOB first - had never played Panzer Corps until after I bought OOB]:

1- The graphics are much better
2- When I initially purchased [upon release], it was devoted to the Pacific Theater

As far as I believe Panzer General has no supply or efficiency loss and similar, this makes it inferior.

In OOB there is tactics to consider, in Panzer General you start with set units and storm your way through the map.

Kondi is right about everything. (Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.)

The major differences are supply lines, efficiency , AT support and free campaigns ported from PzC. (So buying OoB is money well spent.)
Lets do this one by one.
1. Supply lines: OoB simulates what modern warfare is all about - logistics. Keeping your dudes fed and with ammo is everything. Cutting off a numerically superior enemy and keeping him from feeding and resupplying his troops can win you any battle.
2. Efficiency: Ever stormed a trench after not having eaten for two days and no ammo? Yeah, not gonna happen. OoB simulates this. After a few attacks, your newbies falter and just wont cut the mustard. Veterans do. But not after having been worked over by arty and flamethrowers and Stukas. So keep fresh units on the front and shell-shocked guys to the back. (Not in PzC.)
3. AT support: In Panzercorps, nobody bought AT, right? (I didnt) Well, in OoB AT support adjacent to infantry can form formidable strike teams. Three infantry and one AT is a shitshow in PzC? Well, in OoB they own the battlefield.
4. Free campaigns: Erik has ported (for free. Yeah.) all the Panzercorps Grand Campaign stuff into OoB. So download, play and enjoy. Do I need to say more? Free stuff. Ask if you need help.

Put a long story short, buy this. And I promise you will not regret it. And post what you feel is not working out.
(Oh yeah, it covers the Pacific, Europe, carrier fights and what have you. Why have you not bougth this yet? Money well spent.)

I don't understand this one. Is there PzC Grand Campaign converted into OoB? Where can I get it?

If you need help, just ask. Copy the folder into your custom campaigns on C: and it should be accessible. Free stuff - copy, paste, enjoy. Worth it, promise.
And do post frequently about your experience. We all appreciate it, especially Erik. (And say thanks to Erik. He gave you free stuff. Dont forget about this. :D )

Excellent! Thank you :D I'm slowly getting into OoB but I think it's superior to PzC, which is fun but in the long term is all about powergaming. OoB seems to me more sophisticated in terms of strategy. I also like the little stuff that PzC doesn't have, like unit swapping, unit efficiency, greater role of supply. All in OoB seems to be more engaging.
