Henderson Airfield question

Post by jonpfl »

All,

Just got back into the game and have a few questions. I am doing the marines DLC.

1) Your readiness shows the color (red, orange, yellow or white) but is there a way to see the number associated with that color? I saw it mentioned in rulebook.
2) I keep getting Henderson Airfield bombed and don’t know how to stop it. My fighter hardly does damage and now Air supply is red. How do I remedy that?
3) For fighting, is a terrain number less than 1 good or bad? I assume it is best to defend in jungle but don’t understand all the terrain numbers.

Thx

I can answer questions 1 and 3 with a few screen prints from the manual, I believe. (Click each image.)

For supply, press the space bar to get an idea of the situation:

For terrain, this is applicable:

However, from your post, you may be talking about the effect on efficiency that moving through bad terrain has on some units. That's what "a terrain number less than 1" means; moving through the terrain will subtract -1 or -2 from efficiency. That's bad because efficiency affects the ability of the unit to move, fight, and survive:

As for question 2, there's not much you can do about the sea attack (you have gotten up to that part, yes?). But as for air attack on the airfield, your best bet is to stock up on a couple of AA units.

EDIT (SPOILER ALERT): Looking more closely at Guadalcanal, I see what happens is that the Japanese warships go for the structures, which includes your fuel depot. When that is destroyed, the air supply provided by the airfield is reduced for about five turns. It does get restored after that. Like I said, there's not much you can do about the sea attack (there's no US Navy in this scenario) but you can at least fend off Japanese planes with a couple of AA guns.
