Macedonians

Yet another Alexandrian Macedonian list. No big suprises, probably roughly similar to many others.

I went more for what I see as historical representation (in my own mind) than as an open tournament winner.
I am probably limiting this to playing roughly in period (say stuff only from Rise of Rome or Immortal Fire).
But still just wondering how badly I am going to get smashed before/after learning all the quirks....

1x C-in-C IC
1x Sub-commander FC
2x Sub-commander TC
1x 4 Agema Cv Armoured Elite Drilled Lancers Swordsmen
1x 4 Other Companion cavalry Cv Armoured Superior Drilled Lancers Swordsmen
2x 4 Thessalian heavy cavalry Cv Armoured Superior Drilled Light spear Swordsmen
1x 4 Prodromoi LH Unprotected Average Drilled Lancers Swordsmen
1x 4 Thracian light horse LH Unprotected Average Undrilled Javelins Light spear
2x 6 Hypaspists MF Protected Superior Drilled Offensive spearmen
3x 12 Foot companions HF Protected Average Drilled Pikemen
1x 8 Agrianian javelinmen LF Unprotected Superior Undrilled Javelins Light spear
1x 4 Cretan archers LF Unprotected Superior Drilled Bow
1x 4 Macedonian Archers LF Unprotected Average Drilled Bow

Probably would have to drop a Thessalian BG and maybe some LH/LF to get under the list maxima and under 800 pts (if needed).

Also wondering how best to plan a deployment/order of march for these.

That looks like a sensible selection of troops.

I don't think it will be walloped by the normal opponents you would find in period.

I play a version of this list, and love it. Usually 650pts at 28mm scale.
I find that my opponents in period tend to have a wider front than I do. The CAV are expensive, and the pike are deep.
(Maybe at the higher point level that evens up?)

Watch they don't envelope you, especially hoplites.

Do you really need an IC and an FC? I can't imagine flank marching with this army really.

Good point. The extra 15 points (for downgrading the FC to a TC) would allow one of the LF BGs to be bumped up to 6 bases. Much better for doing more than simply running away in front of the enemy.
