Dowloading FoG II - threat detection!

Post by alzado_77 »

Downloading FoG 2 this morning and my antivirus picks up a threat "irsetup.exe"...

Is this a real threat or just needs excepting?

Thanks!

it's a false positive so it's safe

Code: Select all

okay thanks - I've created an exception but now the setup process stops at "uninstall.exe" files.

Any advice or do I need a new download link?

Thanks.

what anti virus are you using?

as tbh it doesn't sound like a good one?

best advice is, install as admin from a admin account, eg right click install as admin and run

if it's a permissions issue, then sometimes alter the default install to elsewhere, say, C:\Games etc and see if that works for you, but normally it's not needed tbh

Sadly neither suggestion resolved... I've contacted Slitherine support though so will leave it in their hands. Thanks for your help.

AVG is known to be rather fussy with game installs, and if it has a gaming mode, as some version do, then it needs to be added to it, other need a exception adding to the rules for each and every game, and each AV is different

Code: Select all

https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000DoXoAAK

Code: Select all

https://antivirussupportaustralia.weebly.com/blog/how-to-enable-the-gaming-mode-in-avg-antivirus-2017
just one of about a few 1000 posts with errors installing or running with the AV mentioned.

it can be fixed, but it's a AV issue not game related, so are best to be installed with AV turned off, while others it's best to add to safelist etc, and as always, if you turn off your AV, best to not be online to be safe, good luck

Won't be any consolation but I had to drop AVG a year or so ago as it was constantly interferring with some 3D programs and there was no way of stopping it. Eventually moved to Avast and not had the same problem.

agreed, why i stayed with built in one with M/S for free tbh, as it's built from the ground up to fully support windows and works with games with never any issues

The less prone to false positives are (and I been have testing some in all these years) are NOD32 and Avira.
I've never had a single false positive case with NOD32.
AVG is one of the worst, like Norton.
