Units in reserve 14+2

Post by Wraithking »

I bought Panzer Corps Gold during the recent Steam sale. Great to be part of the Slitherine/Matrix family again. Last time was Scourge of War Gettysburg.

Anyway, first question is going to be kind of random, and hopefully not too stupid. During the deployment phase, it says "Units in reserve 14+2". I see I have 16 units to deploy, but why not just say Units in reserve 16? The "plus 2" must mean something, but I haven't figured out what yet.

The 14 is the number of core units you can deploy (set by the scenario designer).
The 2 is the number of SE Bonus units you have available to deploy over and above the core units.

If you have fewer bonus units than the current scenario maximum, there is a 30% chance you will be awarded one at the start of the scenario. If you have the current limit or more, you can still deploy all of the bonus units but you won't get any extras until the limit is once again more than you have. There are a few scenarios where you can be awarded an SE unit for some achievement, which can take you over the current limit.

It may also be possible to get one extra if you have Reform Units activated and have a bonus unit destroyed. If the loss leaves you one short, you can be awarded a new one with the usual 30% chance. Reform the destroyed one and you have one more than you should. At least I'm pretty near certain that's what happened as no other explanation made sense, but I wasn't watching out for it and didn't notice it happen.
