Observations on first completed Skirmish game

Post by jimwinsor »

Here's a few interesting things I learned during my first ever completed Skirmish mode game (which ended in a regular victory), mostly having to do with the mechanics of handover:

1) US handover, to my surprise, occurred on Turn 46 (not 50 as per Manual). I guess the exact handover turn is actually somewhat random-ish, around turn 50, give or take?
2) ANA infantry companies aboard US helicopters and MRAPs get removed from the game when handover hits, a VERY unpleasant surprise to me. Although if you have an ANA Special Forces unit, they can be re-raised at the base they were originally raised at.
3) US artillery actually stays behind and converts to ANA control after handover, not what was implied in the Manual but hey, a pleasant surprise that I'll gladly take!
4) A very good strategy in during the quiet time just prior to handover is to send ammo and FOB supply trucks to your FOBs, then park them there without unloading. After the handover the Taliban will launch their offensive, and having the laden trucks already at their destinations is a big bonus in the tough end-game turns ahead.

All in all, a fantastic game, my congratulations to the designers on creating this masterpiece!

1. Manual out of date , the handover is the end of turn 45
2. The US exit on 46, was going to have a mechanic to physically withdraw them but would make for a tedious task, so, you know they will go on turn 46 and if you plan correctly you should repatriate them before and get the PP credit
3. The Artillery is not supposed to handover, will investigate
4. Exactly, works well

Thanks for you support, the journey has just begun :D
