Morale Broken?

There is no peace among the stars: the Imperium of Man is beset on all sides by all kinds of threats. Among them is the Orks, a barbaric and warlike xeno race. One of their fiercest leaders, Grukk Face-Rippa, leads his Red Waaagh! in the Sanctus Reach system...

Morale Broken?

Post by uberzoned »

After playing nearly halfway through the campaigns, I'm finding that broken soldiers don't stay broken into their turn... somehow they gain morale and are fine to charge and attack nearly every time. I can flame troops down to 1 health and 0 morale, and the next turn they are run and gun. I also can't figure out why I need morale myself. I rarely see my units dip below 100. There are plenty of leaders with rally and other perks, but I've yet to need them.

So basically... morale seems pointless as it stands. Broken soldiers should flee the field... panicked soldiers should take wild shots... and I should care about my units morale. Make sense?

I dont understand the mechanics behind recovering morale. Ive seen some units stay broken through turns as they continue to get shot, and other times a squad recovers enough to attack me. So the mechanics would be nice to know.

I agree the mechanics are unclear.
Id like to see broken units fleeing automatically during their turn with no regards to player input and eventual reaction fire arcs.

Unless it was changed, the units don't recover morale only if they have an enemy unit in melee range. Its also possible to drop morale way below zero, though not completely sure if it won't go above zero on the next turn regardless.

We're noticing some issues with morale that we need to look in to. Thanks for the feedback!

On that note, I had broken a squad reducing it's morale to zero and after I ended my turn it engaged me in hand to hand combat. It was adjacent to another enemy unit that wasnt broken. So I figured I dont know what the mechanics are like for how morale is figured and guessed somehow friendly units nearby help add morale back.

Good luck fixing it. Let us know how it works when you do.

It would be cool if broken units kept retreating if they do not rally and if they hit the edge of the map, they are lost, just like in the TT.
