Flank charge restriction

Post by olivier »

Hello,
in our game yesterday evening, we found a problematic situation
see diagram below

The BLUE oops: Cavalry want charge but as the distance between the 2 Cv was less than 1 MU, if the BLUE Cv turn it can't claim a flank charge (page 56)
This result is a bit strange or are we forget something? :? :

The red cavalry can't charge in any event, so I think you mean the blue cavalry charging the red cavalry.

The blue cavalry could wheel to charge the rear of the red cavalry as there is no 1 MU separation restriction on wheels for rear charges, just for flank charges.

If the blue were farther forward so it could not hit the rear, I think you are right that the charge would count as a frontal charge. This looks strange on the table, but tactically the logic seems to be that if you are 1 MU from an enemy flank and and not facing towards them then you are not really in a position advantageous enough to deserve the advantages of a flank charge (unless you take a turn to wheel and position yourself). Treating it as frontal for conforming after Impact seems a reasonable method of addressing this.

Yes ,Blue and not Red

It's very strange especially as Blue cavalry come from a pursuit after an another broken BG. for less than a mm it can't Flank charge the red cavalry. :?

As subsequent action with this situation you can volontary move to force a flanking unit to charge you in front or lose a turn to move in charge position. like this:

Shouldn't a part of red BG stay in the 2 MU restricted area of blue BG when moving in Phase 2 ?

Then I also think that blue BG should have wheeled in direction of its left to avoid what's red BG is trying to do in Phase 2.
