hiding in woods or swamps

Sengoku Jidai: Shadow of the Shogun is a turn-based tactical and strategic game set during this turbulent time; primarily focusing on the Japanese Warring States period and Japanese Invasion of Korea. Other armies from East Asia are also made available to simulate different conflicts across the region.

hiding in woods or swamps

Post by cranston »

I was playing a multiplayer game, co-operating with the other player in an attempt to figure out the mechanics of hiding units.
We ended up with a situation where my opponent had to move a unit within 2 squares of mine in order to spot my yari in woods.
On the other hand, I could see his units in woods from halfway across the map.
We couldn't figure out what was happening.

So, what are the rules for hiding units at the edge of woods or swamps?
Which units can hide?
Are there any factors which determine the distance by which units are discovered?

Thanks in advance

You can't see a unit through an intervening woods square. If a unit is a woods square on the edge of wood, infantry at least should only be visible from within 2 squares, unless it reveals itself by shooting. If I recall correctly cavalry may not be concealed in a woods square on the edge of a wood.

But why was I seeing infantry in woods from 9+ squares away?

I don't know. If you get another chance, please post a screenshot.

Note that in the historical scenarios Jayson may have use some sparse trees objects - these don't automatically count as Woods for visibility purposes.

Many thanks. You have discovered a bug.

Cavalry are supposed to be visible in the edge of a wood, infantry are not (except from 2 squares away).

However, it seems that some of the units have their view flags set incorrectly in the squads spreadsheet, and hence some infantry are using the cavalry visibility logic rather than the infantry visibility logic, and vice versa.

We have corrected this bug for the the next update.
