I'm of the opinion there are enough sub-forums already. Which one would you suggest is dropped to make room?
I'm not convinced it's generate enough traffic to justify it anyway.
Alternatively just post notices in Modelling - best fit IMO.

Am not in charge of organizing this forum but as u ask my opinion, i'd say historical scenario sub forum could fall in AAR section. IMO
FOG, by the BG system had changed the shape of the armies we used with DBM and DBA.:
On forums i can see a lots of nice looking DBA armies but 4 DBA armies won't make a FOG army.
FOG needs given and pair number of bases.
FOG gave more game interest to some units DBM underestimated (legions for ex) and inversly FOG artillery is no longer the "elephant killer" it was at dbm
FOG point systems changes things too for ex, it enable more quality troops than DBM, i have now too much warior bases in my early visigothic army and i have not enoughts legions for my principate roman one
for these reasons a sub forum on selling/buying here would appear a good idea to me
if u still doubt why not ask players?

Not to be pedantic, but we need a policy exception for this.
Slitherine has, TTBOMK, always enforced a fairly strict policy of not allowing buying and selling on their forums.
It's not that I have much doubt about that exception being granted, I'm just pointing out that it would be, uhhh, what's the word...umm, too early, need more caffeine...

Re: sub forum for selling/buying
I would also like to see this. I go to the WAB forum every day even though I have never played WAB just to look on their trade sales page to see if anyone has anything I could convert to FOG.domblas wrote:is it possible to have a sub-forum for selling/buying painted bases, BG, or FOG armies ?
If I was going to drop a sub-forum I would also drop the historical scenarios. I was one of the original posters in that forum but since then, unfortunately, it seems no one has really been very interested in making any historical scenarios.

Wait, wait, hold on now.
It's still early days with FoG, guys. I bet that in 12 months from now there will be 3-4 times as many people playing the game as there are now. It sounds like many clubs in europe are still in transition from DBxx to FoG, and still figuring out how the rules work, the army lists are only half published. Let's give people some time here.
And it seems to me like historical scenarios are something that will be created more in the maturity of the system, when all the elements are in place. If FoG was a child, it would be just learning to walk about now, shrieking and babbling as much as talking, chewing on the furniture, and pulling the cat's tail
In no way is this a criticism; please do not take it as such. I am just saying it's very early days yet.
Let's not give up on the idea of Historical Scenarios, please! To me, the very existence of those lends a certain legitimacy in a system that, err. Wow, I know I'm questioning one of the very foundations of miniature gaming here, and I understand the gameplay reasons why it has to be that way, but...the very ahistorical nature of the matchups in miniatures bothers me some. As a board game or computer gamer, I was accustomed to historical scenarios, with the occasional "what-if" matchup such as a Marian Legion against a Belisarian legion, or a look at the Experimental Phalanx which Alexander was working on at the time of his death.
When I first saw how the matchups work in miniatures, I was strongly put off by it. Now I am growing to accept it. I do see how it has to be that way for some quite practical human, economic and game-play reasons. But the idea of Historical Scenarios still occupies a special warm place near to my heart, and seeing them here does lend a certain legitimacy, to my way of thinking.

Hear, hear! I realize that a large majority of current FoG players are primarily tournament gamers, but to keep possum's excellent metaphor going a bit longer, let's try to avoid throwing the (historical) baby out with the bathwater!possum wrote:It's still early days with FoG, guys. I am primarily an historical gamer in previous rules sets, but at this time I 'm spending my time working to master these rules in anticipation of setting up historical scenarios. This is by far the best support forum I have ever encountered, providing resources I would have killed--er, rolled high dice--for in my early gaming days. I would like to see continued and expanded support for historical as well as competitive gaming (which I also enjoy.)

My views are simple. This is THE place to learn about the game, read AAR's, get help with list design, get queries answered, keep up with news etc, etc, to that end I visit most days.
I also sell ALOT on ebay which is ideal for reaching an international audience and getting some extreme prices!
This excellent forum would be more of a "car boot" sale for anyone thinking of selling.
By all means try it but I'll be sticking to ebay for sellng and this forum for interesting FOG information.
Keep up the excellent work, stick to what you do best!
Best wishes

I agree, as I do with my gaming compadre Mark Sieberwarpaintjj wrote:My views are simple. This is THE place to learn about the game, read AAR's, get help with list design, get queries answered, keep up with news etc, etc, to that end I visit most days.

I like to focus on both historical gaming (and historical scenarios) as well as competitive gaming within a time period. I'm personally not as interested in the anything goes format, but do enjoy reading about, say, Lydians versus Medieval Cypriot

OK chaps we're not going to create a new forum for buying and selling (not just yet anyway) but please feel free to use the modelling sub-forum to post notices about such things. Probably best to include something in the title of the post that indicates you are selling, etc. so that people can spot your pitch
Depending on volume we will review.

Hi ,
sorry but I'm not the tournament killer you are searching ;
in the tournaments I already have organised in France since my beginning :
historical matchups whenever it was possible ;
tried to improve the terrain used ;
and all the things we can do to exchange experiences with newbies and clubs interested by Field of Glory , some players in France misunderstood our way of gaming and said that we promote the rules for some cash ( hopefully for us, it was not the case , we like FOG for the pleasure we have in it ) ;
I said Ebay is the best way mainly because I tought it was the case , otherwise it will be surely possible to find all you want in the bring and buy of Britcon , hope to see all I search there ( friends , games , new figures , etc .......)
see you there ( you couldn't miss me , I'll be on the last tables of FOG
)
