Niggling details: Am I the only one bothered by...?

Post by bloodphoenix »

These are some minor concerns, but I'm hoping that for that very reason, they will be easy to fix?

#1 - SOUND

It used to be that when a sound file was triggered by an event, the entire thing would play. My chief example is charges. If a unit launches a charge, you'll get the sound of yelling men, but if they only charge a short distance, it cuts off immediately, so you get a two-second partial battle-cry. It didn't do that before. Maybe I am the only person who finds that sound irritating, but I've reached a point where I actually play the game without sound because of it (since the sound effects are really pretty irrelevant to game play anyway). But it seems like it would be an easy fix. I hear something similar happen with things like the marching and galloping sounds.

#2 - DISORDER

I've decided, after having initially mixed feelings, that I DO like having a unit's level of Disorder displayed on the unit graphic along with Disrupted/Fragmented status. BUT...I think that when creating an interface its necessary to anticipate things that might lead to confusion, and take steps to prevent them. The problem lies in the fact that "D" can mean "Disrupted" or "Disordered", and unless I'm operating on a long-held misconception, the impact on unit performance is NOT the same. More experienced players, who've logged many hours with the original, will probably not often get confused by this, and I realize that a simple glance at the unit details will reveal which it is...but in the heat of battle, I've occasionally misinterpreted this myself, and new players will probably have alot of trouble with it. Happily, there is a very simple solution. Make the letters for Disorder lower case! So if a unit has a "D" or a "d" the meaning will immediately be clear at a glance, just as much as if its a "Dd" or a "Ds". What do you think?

Yes, I think this is a good idea so players can distinguish more easily between the two. I will add it to the list.
