Britcon 2009 - theme, open or both?

Post by hammy »

With numbers rising for this year's Britcon it looks more than likely that for 2009 there will be more than enough players to justify splitting the pool.

There are a number of options on how to do this, one is to go to the old Pre 494AD, post 494AD split used in DBM, another would be to have two tighter periods and the third (and I think best) option would be to have one open period and one tightly themed.

If there is to be one themed period it would be good to decide on that theme as soon as possible.

Suggestions anyone?

If numbers get up to the sort of levels we used to have with DBM I think 2, or maybe 3 if we get back to the 120+ level, broad themes is the way to go.

Hi ,

nevermind if there will be pools of 8 players , you can arrange the pairings before the tournament ( easy to do if you have the armies played sometimes ago ) and count the total scoring at the end to have the final results ;
already tried it in France , worked well , players were very happy to play different styles of armies and test theirs;

see you in Britcon ;

With 30 days to go arn't we getting close to the cut off point to be making decisions like this?

BTW sent entry on SAT so feel justified in commenting.

See you at Britcon.

I think thats for next year

I would like the early/late split like the old DBM style, or if we have enough by books or pairs of books

Hammy was indeed musing about next year - there are no changes to the published details for Britcon 2008.

To be honest until we see the final numbers for this year and probably how things pan out for the rest of the year it is too soon to be discussing what may happen next year - plus it is not yet known what other supplements will be available in time for Britcon 2009 :shock:

The title of this post may have some bearing on what it is about 8)

It would be nice to have some ide of what next years Britcon will be sooner rather than later and raising it before this years event means people might chat about it next month.

You mean I might not get my chance to fight my Pictish half clad fanatics against Santa and his Do-Da-Diddly-Day army in 2009, Bah Humbug..... :D

On a more serious note, it might be good to see who is a good table top general who can fight Light spear vs chariots or Knights and heavy foot against the new hand gunners and pike, or mounted horse archers vs European Knights. If over 120 people opt for FoG the split will make for a great long weekend (and the Pictish Nation will still be there, early or late depending on the M74).
