Better visibility for rivers at borders

Post by Robotron »

I read some players find it difficult to spot rivers at borders because of the wide lines partially overshadowing/hiding the rivers undernath.

Unfortunately there is no easy way to implement decreasing the border width via a single keystroke, but if you really need to know where those rivers are you can do the following:

Attached to this post you will find a zip-archive containing a png-file called "border_gradient.png" with narrowed borders, to copy into the following folder (after unpacking of course) :

CTGW/Data/Graphics/hexes

overwrite the old "border_gradient.png" file (but make a copy first to revert to the old style).

Ingame-preview of narrowed borders:

If you need the borders even thinner just say so.

Cheers! 8)

First of all, let me congratulate you for the great work done on this mod.

Regarding this borders matter, I'd like to know if it would be possible to get more accurate borders. Right now, borders set in the game don't seem to fit much with the historical ones. Specially Germany's borders are far from being like the historical ones.

Also, any chance in the near future for being possible to mod the map or the counters? I heard in the past that Slitherine guys would eventually make possible that in the future.

Sorry Vokt, but at the moment there is NO way to mod the map and therefore the starting borders at all since all data is encrypted into the mapfiles and not accessible except for people knowing how to modifiy the data using a hex-editor and with knowledge of the mapfiles structure.

Modding the counters would be easy, I could do that if you tell me what should be modded. :)

Those "envelopes" are just military symbols my friend. Just a convention as the thousands that there are in life.

As long as counters are present in almost all wargames it shouldn't be surprising either.

It's just a matter of aesthetics. I strongly prefer using military symbols over little pictures of soldiers. The map is an abstraction, to begin with.

Hi Robotron, I originally posted my issue with borders over on the Matrix forum a while ago, and I just found the later posts directing to your mod here. Thanks so much for taking the time to mod this, It's great and just what I was looking for.

Are these the original graphics? They look so much better I can't understand why they would've changed from them in the first place.
