A wishlist for Slitherine

Post by JohnPlayer »

Dear Slithers,

Thx sooo much for the game and the openness concept behind it. You can basically edit anything without being a hardcore coder.

I have a few wishes for you, as there are a few things, that I haven't figured out how to change.

1 - The 'upgrade unit' phase is too long and too restricted. Let's say I arrive at a one-hex city with three inf units. I want them to be motorized. I use one turn to get the first into the city. The next turn upgrading it. The next turn moving it out and the next in. For all three units to be upgraded to motorized takes me 7-8 turns, before they can continue together towards the front. Funny thing is, when you deploy, you have both the city-hex and surrounding hexes to deploy in. Why can't I have the same amount of hexes at each city to upgrade on. That would be my first wish :-)

2 - One or two more layers for additional terrain features. Loads of us are designing much more complicated maps than the vanilla ones, and need more layers for additional details on them. That could be done in 20 minutes max in your coding department.

3 - When you hover over a unit, you get info about it in the small box over the minimap. But you get the info twice, unless it is a transported unit. If transport, you get both the contained unit in the transport and the transport name. I can see the idea behind it. But if the unit isn't transport-loaded (which most of them is most of the time), then I get the same piece of info twice. Fun thing is, that in the equipment-data file you have a column called 'short name' and one called 'full name'. My wish is, that if a unit is not in-transport, let the second info line look up what is written in the 'full name' column and use that piece of info together with the 'short name' used twice now. That way I can put "Oberleutnant Carius" in short name, and his tank-name "PanzerIV-F" in full name. If I use a ME323 to transport him and his tank, then it is sufficient to know that Oberleutnant Carius is now in a ME323 transport.

All the best and thx again for the game!
