Editor Overlay / Help Building Maps

Post by CarlVon »

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have any instructions on how to overlay a JPEG on the editor to help me build maps? I really want to create some interesting and large multiplayer maps. ie; south America etc.

Thanks.

Maps are done one hex at a time, or you can use the brush and do multiples of the same thing.

Before you invest a lot of time, consider the memory limitations. Everything you do requires memory, especially anything that is interactive, such as rivers, roads and railroads (the Star section).

OoB Pacific really cannot do "large detailed maps", AND place large armies or whatever pieces you have in mind. With larger maps you will only have about 8 - 10 active AI units. You can play a "shell game" and sometimes make it look like more.

OoB works best with smaller maps and unit counts.

Seriously, when you run into problems the developers will remain silent, they will not help you. Go through the posts - the proof is there.

The moderator Erik is helpful with the editor.

Good Luck (you will need it).

Put a .jpg named template in the scenario folder.
I usually divide the jpg horizopntal and vertical resolutions by a suitable number to arrive at the number of hexes across and down.
And yes, large maps and large number of units may get you into trouble running the scenario, especially if you have a AI opponent.
I find it best to give the AI teams very specific orders and leading them by their noses using triggers.
Better to have a large number of AI teams with few units in each team in my experience.
You need to experiment to see what you can get away with.
