Reading the threads on "mini-FoG" and the 650 point 2.5 hour format, what is the minimum table size folks think works for FoG? And at what amount of points?
I've solo'd 600 and 650 point battles on my kitchen table, which is a shade under 4' long and a bit under 3' wide. That strikes me as perhaps too narrow. I just picked up a 5x3' fold out table which I think will work well for smaller FoG battles, in the 600-650 point ranges. It seems to be that the more expensive armies, point wise, might work on that table size at 800 points, but I'm guessing that 5x4 might be better.
The minimum--how small can you go?

As shooty cav are so powerful you might want fight them on a 5'x3' - all Sassanid armies should be forced to fight on a 5'x3' table IMO but then I like Romans. Remember that this gives you 15 sq foot of table against 24 on a 6'x4' so you probably want to use 2/3 of the normal amount of terrain else you will get a cluttered battlefield and that changes some of the interactions. Using some of the <=600 point starter armies will work fine on a 5'x3' table. One thing you might want is a fortified camp as in general the camp will be reached more often and the armies will be small so the effect of losing it is greater. There will be less opportunity to rally BG when they break/pursuers will reach the table edge sooner which also has an effect.
On Thursday I played an 800 point game and we only used 4' 3" of table width and, other than one combat, the only action in the rear 6" of each side's deployment area was units rfetreating. The game took more than 6 hours to reach a conclusion.
One final thing, when you do get to play 800 points on a 6'x4', you will find that flanks become a much bigger issue.
