Help on Campaign

Post by demyansk »

I have been playing this game from the beginning. I built up my forces, saved lots of prestige and lost almost every unit by the time 1942 ended. I couldn't win the Stalingrad scenarios and I am not sure of what to do next.

If I start the 1943 scenario I think I might have 3-4 planes left, that's it. I am only playing on Colonel.

Any help appreciated

What did your corps look like when you entered Stalingrad?
Check out my Grand Campaign on the AAR side of the forum to see my day by day playthrough.

I have just finished Storming Stalingrad and will be posting my day by day of that battle in probably a little over a month as cannot find adequate time to type it up yet.

But more specifics may be something many people can speak to.

I read lot help post on this board ask people for general guidance.

Panzer corps easy to get into but very hard work out little things. Watching or reading a guide to one map not going help you truly as you still be stuck after the map your on.

Some tips I can give arty learn whats got the best rate of fire, use couple heavy 17cm max rest 10.5cm enough and has high ROF. Rocky arty great against infantry. Develop Stug IIIB early there amazing helping defend your units.
Strategic bombers can remove ammo on big heavy Russian tanks its a god send, learn to use those then arty and after surround and cause to surrender.
Big wide open terrain lots of tanks. Forest, city closed space use infantry.
Learn to protect your units so the enemy has limited moves during AI turns.
Use min amount of fighters possible once skies clear not much they can do, Back up smaller fighter force with Tac fighter bombers as they can hit ground forces to.
Learn to use all terrain to your advantage. Rivers are great blocking points for defence. Learn retreat isn't to fail if you use retreat wisely you can pull back to better defencive positions and then attack again once AI is nearly beat. Speed at times is your best friend fast attack can grab resource points undefended and cause AI less prestige.
Anti-tank units are important and cheap and nasty surprise for tanks learn their strengths.
Large pool force gives you a better choice at deployment, I prefer larger force with less experience each instead of tight high experience corps. Learn the advantage of each unit and when best employ each. I keep good few 88 for defence maps. Lots of infantry for city maps. Anti-tank for defence maps etc.
Recon units move max 2 times leaving them 1 move to retreat. There good for grabbing points instead of fighting units.
Your big corp force, build it as early as possible giving all much need experience, leave it to late to add units they end up green and dead.
Arty mix mobile arty with pulled arty in your core. Mobile arty doesn't have to wait to deploy. Pulled arty will hit slightly harder.
Unit heros learn to use them to their biggest advantage, +1 movement helps tigers keep up more with other tanks. +1 range really helps arty to hit enemy arty without the enemy been able fire back. +1 range rocket arty is easier to keep alive and hidden.

Thats some of the things I learned sure others will help with tips I missed, hard trying think them all as they become part you, they just are done without thinking about after so long.
