Units won't move or attack
I would be most grateful for some help please. I am not very computer literate and simple steps would be greatly appreciated.
I purchased Order of Battle Pacific with a DVD and free download about a year ago and only played as the Allied faction up till now. I also recently purchased the Morning Sun "add-on" and downloaded patch 2 3 8 as well So far I've not played Morning Sun.
Instead, playing the original "unmodded" Campaign as the Japanese for the first time I encountered the following:
1) Units freeze and will neither move nor fight. Sometimes hitting the Page Up hotkey (rotation of units) will break the freezing, sometimes it won't and the only recourse is to move on to the next turn. This has happened spasmodically in various mini-campaigns, but in the New Caledonia one, it was happening a great deal (practically every turn from about 30 or so onwards.
2) In the Solomans mini-campaign, there was freezing, plus in and after turn 23, Japanese units became white and ghostlike. This stopped after about 5 turns. Certain allied units were also in lurid colours with all detail masked.
3) Before this I received some advice as the Imperial Japan Campaign had totally frozen (see earlier posts of a few days ago).I was told to delete settings which caused the game to work.
I am most perplexed by this freezing as it is totally spoiling the game and would welcome any help. Thanking you in anticipation.

Re: Units won't move or attack
Have just started Brisbane mission and on turn 1 units would not move or attack!
This game is deeply flawed and it is difficult to see how anyone would contemplate buying the Marines add-on if these problems are inherent in the game.

Re: Units won't move or attack
if you can supply this, http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 72&t=64167
we can look into it for you, thanks for the report and sorry it's not working for you as it should, with the reports and saves and logs asked for we can get to the bottom of why it's not working for you

Re: Units won't move or attack
Please provide a savegame and/or output_log.txt as explained in the link posted by zakblood. This issue has - as far as I know - not been reported before so I don't really know what's going on there.

Re: Units won't move or attack
Thank you for your attempts to help. I'm sorry but your explanation of what to do is beyond my (virtually nil) computer knowledge. I just don't know how to start and it would be impossible for me find the things you've requested. Sorry.
Can you tell me step by step in non-c0mputer jargon what you want me to do and how to do it and then access what is needed and then how I send it to you.
Your help is appreciated.
I expected the game to be playable. Clearly it's not, without some very complicated (to a computer novice) procedures. It's a bit like buying a car and then being asked to undertake some complicated engineering to make it drive. There must be lots of people like me who have no computer skills who in good faith bought the game and expected it to work. Why has this game been allowed to go on sale with these problems. I'm also getting the same problem with the Chinese add-on campaign and the AI turns take an eternity. It just keeps getting worse as I go on. Possibly you could pass these comments to the game makers.
Notwithstanding this, thank you for your attempts to help.

Re: Units won't move or attack
You've been the only person reporting these issues so far, so I wouldn't call the game unplayable. Either it's a problem with your local system or game files or it must be something quite rare. Which of course needs solving none the less.I expected the game to be playable. Clearly it's not, without some very complicated (to a computer novice) procedures.
To provide more clear instructions:
Navigate to the folder My Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - Pacific\SaveGames.
Here you should have a number of savegame files. Please email us (in attachment) either the Auto Save (Turn End).saz file and/or any manual savegames you might have made during the scenario(s) which are causing problems.
The email address is contact@the-artistocrats.com
Additionally:
Navigate to the folder C:\Slitherine\Order of Battle - Pacific\Order of Battle - Pacific_Data\
In here you will find a file called "output_log.txt"
Please email this to contact@the-artistocrats.com as well.
Let me know if this helps.

Re: Units won't move or attack
In the first instruction I can reach "Save Games" and can see a list of saves, but I don't know how to e-mail (in attachment).
In the second instruction under "Additionally", I don't know how to follow your advice to navigate to the C:|Slitherine.......etc. Again I don't know how to email these to you. How do I start the process?
The freezing of units occurred on several turns (but not all turns ) in various missions. I've played hundreds of turns in the various campaigns and to retrospectively identify the specific ones is very difficult. When it happened, I didn't know that you would need to see these various saves and didn't therefore feel there was a reason for noting which turn in which mission the problem arose. I also didn't make a manual save to record the specific time in the turn that the unit(s) wouldn't move. Since learning of your need to see these saves, I've gone back to replay several turns in which a problem arose----the Brisbane one I mentioned to you as an example. If I knew how to email (in attachment), I would have sent this to you. Second time around, however I was able to play the Brisbane turn without any freezing! It seems therefore, that the problem only surfaces when a random sequence causes the rest of the units to then freeze. In other words, it's clear that a sequence of actions will trigger the problem and it will not just happen each time in a "rogue" turn.
What I'll do now is to continue to play the Chinese campaign and if I encounter a freeze, I'll take a snap manual save at that precise moment in time. I'll also routinely have take a manual save at the end of the preceding turn i.e, before hitting the End Turn icon, and label it. At the start of my Turn (after the AI move) , I'll have also take a manual save as well, and label it. Thus you'll have the actual moment of freezing plus the position at the end of the preceding turn and the position at the start of the Turn in which the freeze occurred.
I hope this will help.
If you can just tell me how to email what you need and how to reach the other site, I'ss start the steps above.

Re: Units won't move or attack
Attaching to email depends on what email service you use, so it's a bit difficult to explain this in general.
Maybe an easier alternative:
- Go to website http://www.tinyupload.com/
- Click the "browse" button under "File to upload :"
- In the explorer window popup, navigate to the folders specified earlier
- For C:\Slitherine\Order of Battle - Pacific\Order of Battle - Pacific_Data\ first click "Local Drive (C:)" in the left side panel. Then find the Slitherine folder on the right side, doubleclick it and keep looking for the next folder in the path until you are in Order of Battle - Pacific_Data. There should be the file output_log.txt. Click on it once and then click the "Open" button.
- The explorer window will close so now click the green "upload" button on the website.
- When the upload is completed and the website has automatically refreshed you will see something like "You can download it from address: http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=661349896893304".
- right-click on the "http://..." part and select "copy link"
- then make another reply on this forum thread, right-click in the text field and select "paste" to insert this link into the forum post.

Re: Units won't move or attack
I have now been able to send the info and attachments to the Aristocrats website using my other email account jjmcnick@g.mail.com. I only use rudwickjohn on the Forum site. Please ask them to read my comments on the Forum to make sense of my email to them.
Thank you. I hope for some good news as to a solution.
