Problem with battles makes game unplayable

I am having a problem with battles.

If I want to resolve the battle "manually", the game takes me to the combat screen with the game fully "zoomed in". I cannot zoom out with any keyboard command or the scroll wheel on the mouse. At this scale, you can do nothing regarding giving orders to your ships. You can select them, but you cannot move them. They can change direction, but will not move if you right click. If you give the order to let them do their own thing, they will, but individually and get slaughtered. I cannot command my ships.

What makes this weird is that it doesn't always happen. Some games, it does every time. Other plays, it doesn't happen. I am not changing the settings, so I have no idea why this is happening.

Auto Resolve works, no problem, but this is just too frustrating to play. Going back over and over from saves does the same thing.

let's take a look at your settings to see if it's a hardware or software issue,

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

This is the same problem I addres in the "odd lockup" thread.

I had the problem occasionally, then it stopped, now it occurs on every battle

It is indeed extremely frustrating

Yep because I am still waiting for help on the problem of the zipped saves "too large" in the other thread. I have the zipped saves but I can't upload them through the forum due to the size of the files

Now if I did this right, this save is with a combat already committed. Just let it run and fight the battle. For me, the battle comes up with no ability to zoom and the ships will accept orders but not move

What happens when you scroll the mouse wheel or press '-' or '+' buttons?

The same problem is reported by a guy that used Steam overlay. Looks like the game thinks some of the functional keys is down (like shift, ctrl or alt).

The solution is to press once the Shift key.

Hmm,

I'll try that and report back. I found that restarting windows 7 SOMETIMES works, but not today. I'll give the shift key a try.

The mouse wheel changes the time scale. The - and + keys the same.

BINGO! Pressing the Shift key ONCE works!!!!
