So a unit of light horse facing forwards is pinned by enemy to its flank. Rules state the pinned unit can make a move perpendicular to its rear.ie backwards. Lets say it makes a full move backwards... which way does it end up facing...? still facing forwards or turned to face the opposite way to when it started?
cheers

Re: retiring backwards when pinned
Surely it depends upon how you choose to move?
If you turn 180 degrees and move a full move it is facing in the opposite direction to how it started.
If you take a CMT to turn/move/turn you move 2MU and end facing the same way as you started.

Re: retiring backwards when pinned
Fair point... but the situation has occurred on three occasions recently and no one has thought of those two options... all assume they can just go straight back without turning.... your answer maybe obvious now but in the heat of a game it isn't clear.. might be worth adding into clarifications . Cheers and thanks

Re: retiring backwards when pinned
Hi Paul - I don't doubt your recent experiences but I am struggling to understand how else it could be interpreted?
All of the possible moves are listed on page 42. Only 2 allow a move straight backwards.
But if you think it's a problem I'll stick it on the 'pending' list for future consideration.

Hi- Your answer is kind of obvious when I think about it... I suppose my point is that 3 others plus me missed it! (I accept I am always the idiot you should think about when you idiot proof stuff.. but my opponents were all bright chaps) .. so maybe just needs a clarification somewhere down the line. Thanks and glad I raised it as it's clear now

Not a problem.
As wargamers we tend to read the rules and interpret them to suit our needs - sometimes distorting them in the process - but glad you agree that it is pretty clear.
