Unit Strength in Brackets
Maybe I'm just not reading the right documents, but I cannot figure out what it means when a unit has a combat strength listed in [brackets]. What does a strength of [1] mean? Any and all help appreciated.

Re: Unit Strength in Brackets
That means once they are reduced from their starting strength they cannot replace their strength.

Thanks for the quick reply. Does that limitation apply only to the current battle or does it carry forward (for core units) to future battles, too?goose_2 wrote:That means once they are reduced from their starting strength they cannot replace their strength.

It should never be on core units.
I apologize I think what you are actually talking about are suppressed units. Those units in brackets are the new units you purchased or half the units from an airborne drop or a unit after it is hit by arty or Strategic Bombers. Those bracketed units are suppressed and will not be allowed to attack or defend until they are attacked by another ground unit or until the very next round.
I hope that helps

What I am asking about can be seen in this screen cap of a Grenadier unit. It has an Air Attack strength of [1]. Why the brackets around the 1?

Re: Unit Strength in Brackets
It means that the unit can't attack (against ground / air / naval units, depending which value is in brackets), but only defend/shoot back if they are attacked. In the case of the grenadiers, it means they can't attack air units, but if they are attacked by a fighter or tactical bomber, they will shoot back.
Re: Unit Strength in Brackets
And so their counterattack would be at a strength of 1. Thanks. I come from Armageddon first, so I am just getting into PzC and loving it. Makes me wish I had actually played the old PG game back in the '90s. I was too busy with RTS back then.smashtheaxis wrote:It means that the unit can't attack (against ground / air / naval units, depending which value is in brackets), but only defend/shoot back if they are attacked. Re: Unit Strength in Brackets
Are you referring to attack strengths? Many infantry and armor have an air attack of [1] which means they do not have the ability to directly attack aircraft during their turn but will fire back defensively if they are attacked by aircraft. Similarly, an 88 in antiair mode will have it's soft, hard, and naval attack values in brackets as it can only attack aircraft while in that mode but will respond if attacked (if possible) by soft, hard or naval units. Conversely, when it is in antitank mode, only it's air attack value will be in brackets as it cannot attack aircraft while in that mode but will respond when attacked by aircraft.
