PC - how do you keep your unit statistics up-to-date?
Have attached a screen shot of a very basic excell file in which I try to keep track of my core units (2nd attempt going east - starting GC 1943) - information that I can not add to the GC game.
Green/yellow/red highlighting meaning (obvious) safe/watch out/danger signals to the specific character of the cell.
"Specialty" is short for its hero + the number - is also added to the unit's name in Alt-D in the game.
Im not an expert in excel programming and formulas - so its all piecework.
But it helps me to direct the units.
Would love to hear how you manage yours. Mine is NOT the best, but I try to discover what is good.
I know there are unit manage programs, can they do what I want to be "highlighted" to make proper strategic decisions?
Peter

To the right - not clearly visible - I also keep statistics of allied units as they appear in the game: name - soft/hard/defensive and green/yellow/red color indicating if it is safe or dangerous.
"UP?" - means if I should keep the unit - or what is my ultimate goal of upgrade.
"exp" - experience
"awards" - obviously which awards
"SE"- also if it is an SE unit
"+" - if it has more than 10 points

Most urgent reason for compiling this file, is that the effect of a hero is not reflected in the units statistics when examening it.
So - I never know how to place/use a specific unit for that specific role - now it helps me.

I know there are more statistics that you think are more important and it is just an aid, but still....
.
Would like to hear how you manage your units. Hope to learn!

I have never even conceived of doing such a thing, but what you have laid out is some serious record keeping that makes my day by day playthroughs look amateurish in comparison.
Has this record keeping been effective in strategy, in what way has it helped?

For some time I tried to keep track of the performance of my units by noting losses taken and damage dealt in an excel sheet. Based on the prestige cost of the unit this would calculate the units effectiveness. Somewhere in the forum there should still be a topic where we discussed the calculations and certain factors like experience and suppression. Well, it was interesting, but too much work in the end. And by the way if I remember correctly on most maps basic infantry without transports dealt the most damage per prestige cost

I do recall there was an anomalous Panzer 2C that did major damage out of all proportion to what it should have.braccada wrote:Well, it was interesting, but too much work in the end. Re: PC - how do you keep your unit statistics up-to-date?
Omg, excel spreadsheet...
Oh, i did have one, but for online MMO, and it wasn't about performance/efficiency, it was lists of items to be bought when discounts are rolled out
I figured it out long ago, when corps was general, and just renamed a unit if it did something outstanding.
Since PC uses heroes system, and heroes' perks can modify unit performance significantly, i add letters to units' names. Let's say i have a Captured T34/41. If a crew member is distinguished as hero of war and gives my tank one extra speed, then i rename it to Captured T34/41 Fast, or simply T34/41 F. Fast units can be used as scouts or assigned to battle groups that need to cover larger distances than others. If it survives until 1944, it receives Koenig Tigers, because while the damn thing has good armor, excellent initiative and attack, in stock it's too slow, and doesn't worth it without speed upgrade.
Likewise, an infantry, or any unit, actually, save for bombers and arty, with bonus to initiative, becomes 39th Grenadier Init. Bonus to attack = letter "A" and number of additional points, i.e. 2nd Pioneer A3. Spotting = Sp. And so on.
It helps me in several ways:
1) simpler deployment management, as every battle group receives a tank with enhanced spotting range, infantry with extra initiative (or grenadiers with extra movement range), and, later in the game, tank(s) with extra initiative to counter advanced enemy tanks/antitank SPGs. Besides, when units have perks in their names, it's easier to pick which to deploy, as slots are limited.
2) simpler replenishment, as Rudel, or spotters, or tanks with good initiative must be replenished above their normal numbers, while regular units will receive only usual reinforcements.
3) simpler battle management. U do want to attack SU-100 or IS-1/2 with Tiger or Panther that have extra initiative. Oh yes, you better use these units. Same with infantry and fighters.
Of course, it only makes sense to indicate significant perks, and there is no point in adding A3 to tank, Sp to arty or D (defense) to pretty much anything. And don't forget, that during deployment phase you can hover mouse above small figure of an officer in the bottom right corner of unit icon in the panel, and it will tell you about all modifiers this unit has.
