general in close combat and bonus on CT

Post by domblas »

excuses me if the question is answered in the book

but i can't decide if i can use the bonus on CT of my IC in range and line of command when my BG is in close combat and that another general is in close combat with it.

No you cannot - must be the general influencing the test.

I suppose a better question would be if a BG not on combat but with a lesser commander has to take a CT (from shooting or seeing a break etc.) then could an IC within range override the general actually with the BG?

Fortunately the anser to this one is clear, you use whichever commander gives the best modifier see P113.

Except in the case where you are rallying a BG, in which case it must be the general with the BG.

Although that rule is tucked away on p110, not on p113 with all the other rules on which commanders can apply their modifiers for some reason.

I think it is worth clarifying that you cannot choose not to use a general in range, in those rare cases (in my experience, CMT to avoid spontaneous charges through friends) when you want the BG to fail. You have to use the best modifier available.

Correct - the rules states:
Only one commander can affect a cohesion test – count whichever gives the best modifiers.
It doesn't say 'may choose to' count.

Also....in case no one's noticed:
A commander that is with a battlegroup when it declares a charge (or fails a CMT not to charge) MUST move with the charging battlegroup. (and must also evade and route with a BG as well)
