Game Info
I started playing Pike and Shot recently and am loving it so I was looking for something similar.
I also see that there is a new version of FoG coming out, or more like a free upgrade? Will the new Unity version have a hard copy available. Also does the hard copy come with the game on a disc or would I just recieve a download code? Stupid question I know but its happened before.
I guess you could say Im interested in a physical copy if it comes with everything I need to play the game on my computer without accessing the internet.
Last thing is its disappointing that the games are not stand alone. I dont have much interest in ancient warfare so I have to make two purchases just to play the time period I am interested in. I believe I looked at this game years ago and forgot about it after stalling on a buy for this same reason.

Re: Game Info
Also does anyone have an opinion on which medieval expansion is the best for me? My big interest as far as history is the First Crusades, Italio-Normans, the Hundred Years wars and French medieval warfare in general.
I see now after looking at them that one is just an army pack and most come with about 10 battles...Doesnt seem like a lot, How do most people play the game? I guess there is a skirmish mode or something like that?
Also the graphics seem to be better on some expansions, I guess you get an update when you buy one?

Re: Game Info
'Storm of Arrows' has the Hundred Years War stuff in, as well as the other European mediaeval stuff, and 'Swords and Scimitars' has the Crusades stuff in.
The new FoG, as I understand it, will be free to those who already own the original FoG and the same will apply to all the expansions.
I used to always insist on physical copies of games, but nowadays prefer digital copies. Physical copies can be damaged, lost, stolen and any time time you need to reinstall you have to hunt out the disc again. With a digital download there's none of that hassle and if you need to reinstall you can either use a backup you've made, or you can ask Slitherine support to send you a link and you can download the digital copy again. Slitherine support are really brilliant. Alternatively, if you buy it through Steam, or have a Steam key, they keep the game for you and you can download it any time you need to upgrade your computer, reinstall, or whatever. As far as I know, FoG is only available as a digital download, but I don;t know what the options will be with the new version.
Best Wishes

Re: Game Info
Thinking of buying Field of Glory. A few questions....Wondering if the Battle map rotates, or does your view always remain the same, ie looking at your own Armies back ? Also if I wanted to download any of the user made scenerios do I need the relevant Expansion pack. For example The Battle of Bosworth would I need "Storm of Arrows" ?
I have a computer and a Laptop would I be able to load this game using the same serial key ?
Lastly will the DAG work for single player ?I think this is a brilliant idea. I have watched a couple of Youtube video's and seen this being used for Multiplayer of which I have little interest. Anyway Thanks in advance for any help or advice it is very much appreciated.

scenarios are self-contained and do not need expansions.
don't know about loading the game on more than one machine. should work though.
dag works as single player but a.i. not good.

Re: Game Info
Thanks again for your advice, have been thinking about getting this game for months. I have delayed for a couple of reasons...The new Unity version, although I understand I can upgrade, also I'm a big fan of Pike and Shot Campaigns. I have been wondering about which direction, or era that game will go. Being on a limited budget I dont want to buy FOG plus some expansions, only to find that Pike and shot then does Ancient Rome....If you get my drift.....Although am hoping they go into 18th Century rather than back into Ancients. Thanks again.
Re: Game Info
i stopped playing 'pike and shot'. the game play is not as fluid and fog actually does a better job simulating renaissance battles. i did write scenarios for 'pike and shot': the triptychs 'sweden's high noon' and 'furia francese' are mine. fog is the best money i ever spent, still playing after 7 years.

I have just been looking at some of your scenerios, you have been very busy. I know these "From what I have seen are based on Historical battles". Ever thought about doing a few "What if' scenerios ? One springs to mind, What if Hannibal after Cannae had recieved replacements and decided to march on Rome ? Rome scrapes together her remaining forces and decides to give battle only a few miles from the Eternal city.....Rewriting History for fun......Anyway all the best, I'm sure you are kept busy doing other things.

Re: Game Info
I don't think Hannibal needed any replacements, did he? If he'd marched on Rome there would have been nothing to stop him; it was defenceless.
One of the great mysteries of history is why Hannibal didn't just march on Rome and win the war.
Best Wishes

Re: Game Info
actually the last historical battle i did (a redesign of marignano) was in january 2015. all the scenarios in the 'lords' series are hypothetical battles, based on actual orders of battles.stefankollers wrote:I have just been looking at some of your scenerios, you have been very busy.
