Southern League FOGR 2016 at Southampton
After consultation with Alasdair Harley and others, Wessex Wargames Society is aiming to take over the hosting of the Southampton round of the SL in 2016. This already has provisional support from our committee, but they would like evidence that there is enough support among external groups and individuals to make it financially viable.
In acknowledgment of Alasdair’s hard work in establishing this popular event in 2013 and 2014, and to support the process of establishing broad, but consistent, themes for each particular SL round, we wish to retain the chosen period (Italian Wars) and the general organisation.
So, the proposed event is pretty much the same as the original 2013 Southampton round to enable you to get those earlier armies out:
• FOGR 15mm 800 points
• Format - 3 x 2hr 40min games on pre-set terrain with first game commencing 09.00
• Period - Early 16th century Europe, Date 1494-1555 Maximillian Imperial, Italian wars French, Trastamara Spanish, Italian States, Italian wars Venetian, German States, Early Henrican English, Later Henrican English, Scottish, Border Reivers, Irish, Anglo Irish, Peasant Wars (Not Hungarian), Caroline Imperialists(Not in Africa)
• Proposed date either Sunday 18th/ 25th September 2016 which will be confirmed once the venue is booked
• Venue: Colbury Memorial Hall, Hunters Hill, Ashurst, Southampton SO40 7EL (circa 5 mins from M27 with plentiful free onsite parking)
• Fee is yet to be decided and will depend on the response we get from this announcement but will be in keeping with usual SL prices and will of course include the traditional tea, coffee and biscuits.
• We have ample room for 12 tables /24 players comfortably but could squeeze in more if necessary
We need to give our committee a reasonable indication of numbers/support at our AGM next month, so please post your comments (especially your likely attendance) on this thread by 5th December, latest. Thank you.
I am very confident this will go ahead and an official announcement will be made by the end of the year at the latest.

I will certainly be up for it if held next year. I am certain other Oxford players will want to come as well.

Thank you, Bob. We had noticed that the Oxford Club had supported the two previous Southampton events and we were hoping that that would also be the case in 2016.

Currently both weekends are clear so I think you can count on two from Reigate.

Ashurst is only 25 minutes drive from my parents so I think it mightopportunity to combine a home visit with a tournament. Win-win.

Re: Southern League FOGR 2016 at Southampton
Thank you for the responses so far but we have our club AGM on Saturday (December 5th) and it would really help us if we could have a better idea of numbers - even if it's only "in principle" as it is obviously 10 months away! With prospective hall hire costs and a need to reserve the date some way in advance, we need at least 16 contestants to break even financially, and we currently have 6+ "home" players and 6+ "externals" so if a few more of you - especially you Oxford and Central London lads who were big supporters of the former Southampton event - could indicate interest before close of play on Friday evening, we would be very grateful. Thanks again.

Will Byron be attending, too? I think he did quite well in one of the previous Southampton "do's".

You're going to have to narrow that down a bit more.......

Re: Southern League FOGR 2016 at Southampton
I am pleased to announce that we have enough support for this event to convince our committee to let us go ahead as planned.
I can confirm that the date will be Sunday September 25th 2016.
The entry fee will be £12 and will include tea, coffee and biscuits.
Three tournament specific rules will be applicable:
Six bases of foot battle troops must be deployed for each heavy or medium artillery base deployed.
Heavy and medium artillery cannot be deployed at set up to fire into the flank zones ( the 12” zone where only mounted and light troops can normally deploy).
Artillery captured by mounted troops during the current turn can be removed at the end of the JAP phase at the capturing players discretion.
Alasdair has very kindly agreed to be list checker for this event so could all lists be with him no later than Saturday September 10th 2016.

Thank you to all those who committed to support this event so quickly

Re: Southern League FOGR 2016 at Southampton
Just a quick summary of players who have indicated they could play subject to date confirmation etc. Apologies if I have any names incorrect as I am not entirely sure of everyones forum identity:
Bob Medcraft
Keith Spedding
Don Avis
Bruce Rollett
Jerry Bray
Alasdair Harley
Tom Elsworth
Paddy Bray
Dene Green
Ray Boyles
From the Wessex we have:
Brendan Morrissey
David Hewkin
Jon Philp
Mark Littleton-Gray
John Watson
Brian Hooker
So 16 players to date for the 24 places available, although we think we could get 28 places without being too cramped.
