Err... Dice chess?
Okay, so I freaking love this game. Masterpiece... Except there is one problem: it is very difficult to figure out how the hell the game and damage mechanics actually function! I still can't figure it out, and I can't find anyone who literally understands the process.
Right now I am trying to test out the other advanced options, eg, dice chess, and chess for the damage outcomes. I was told that dice chess mildly reduces the randomness, and chess is literally the outcomes as they are stated. However, that isn't what I'm getting at all. I tried chess and it still seems that the outcomes aren't what is estimated, and there is still randomness to a good degree.
Now I'm just confused and frustrated to be honest. I want to understand this game and the mechanics in detail, but it seems impossible to figure out the math or rule sets... I'm begging for help here!
Thanks to anyone who can offer aid.

Re: Err... Dice chess?
Just checking. When you changed the setting to Chess, did you check the Custom Setting tick box?
I think that has to be on for the change to be implemented, otherwise it will just play as before.
Ignore me if you did this
From my perspective, not knowing (or caring) how the combat results are calculated actually helps. Those reverses when the die seem to dessert you means I always look to have a backup/reserve.

Re: Err... Dice chess?
Whoops! Did not do that... But tried it and I'm still getting results that are different than the estimates shown...
Re: Err... Dice chess?
Do you checked on Chess the Custom Settings?
I use this settings too and get always the estimated values.
Or do you use "Dice chess"? Then it's normal you get different results.

Re: Err... Dice chess?
I've been playing on dice chess for a while now, and it appears to allow +/-2 variation around the expected outcome.
After a combat, press control+L to see the outcome. If it lists the dice rolls you are on full random. Dice chess shows percentage chances of miss, suppress, kill and the results (but with no die rolls).

Re: Err... Dice chess?
I was using Chess, and am getting results like Dice chess instead...
EDIT:
Okay, I just started it up and checked and chess shows dice rolls, but dice chess does NOT show dice roles for the combat reports...! Both seem to be random (although less so than with the normal style). Something is not right here, either my understanding or one of the options... I'm really confused now. I using the iOS version by the way.
EDIT 2: Major discovery!!! I just tested the setting with the main campaign, scenarios on both dice chess and chess and they seem to function correctly... Dice roles are not used in chess dice or chess mode. HOWEVER, if I switch to grand campaign scenarios dice roles still show and the game appears to act as normal/randomness and ignores the custom settings! Can others test if this is true? Rather major bug possibly!

Re: Err... Dice chess?
That would be... surprising.. considering campaigns are just data and the game rules should work no matter what data is being run... I'll try it later.Emoni wrote:I was using Chess, and am getting results like Dice chess instead...

Re: Err... Dice chess?
I know, it didn't even cross my mind that it was possible but I did it just to see. At least on my iPad it is behaving like this. My only guess is that maybe this has to do with the way the soft cap was fixed, some code was tweaked depending on the scenario settings?
Someone please check as well, because something weird is going on.

Re: Err... Dice chess?
Odd, I can't test PC, but Chess clearly doesn't function on the grand campaign correctly on iOS. Appears to be okay on other parts for some reason.
Thanks for checking.

Just checked.
On the PC, all custom settings work as expected, as others have said.

Re: Err... Dice chess?
it is a bug: in the grand campaign on ios, the chess option is working only with the second mission of the campaign (and also for following missions too). U have to make it without chess mod in the fist mission. As first mission is an easy mission, it is not important..
ps: sorry for my bad english.

Re: Err... Dice chess?
Really? That is a really really weird bug? How did you hear about this? How long has it been like this?
Update: This is not correct. Just tested it. The second mission still does not have chess mode working even though it is enabled... Chess mode (and chess dice too maybe) is bugged on iOS grand campaign...

Re: Err... Dice chess?
between first mission and the second, u have to enable chess mode and after all the campaign will be working with chess mode.
I have seen it was a bug on another forum like matrix forum, i don't remember where.
if u can't activate it, u can write "chess" as cheat code in the game:

Re: Err... Dice chess?
Thanks for mentioning this. It seems the only way chess mode works in the grand campaign on the iOS version is with the cheat mode...
Is there any side effect of using a cheat on the game?
I hope the devs fix this.

Not that I know of. Well, except for the fact that you will be disappointed in yourself until the end of time.Emoni wrote:Is there any side effect of using a cheat on the game?
