unit model - weapon graphic

Post by Ivenend »

We can easily recognize the cavalry's weapon by their standing lance of the unit model, and the bows of both infantrys or cavalrys are easy to recognize too. But it is a little unfair for weapons except pikes, lances and bows, we can't see weapons like bills, halberds, swords, zweihanders, bardiches... I wish that there is also weapon models for all kinds of weapons, so I can see the landsknechts with zweihander, the English billman with bill, the the reislaufer with halberd on the battle field just like I can see cavalrys holding their lance. The weapon models don't need to be too meticulous, a simple model like the current bows or lance will be pretty good

Hi. We could, of course, have done it this way, but we chose to follow the conventions of contemporary 17th century engravings and depict the pikes and other infantry polearms as a solid block.

Any guys with zweihanders would be in there somewhere (well not at the time of the Battle of Nieuwpoort, but earlier) but would not be depicted as they are in the middle of the pike block.

Or other 2d art would do the job for presentation of the unit. Like maybe in totally different style, pic of the whole unit from the front, so mixed style of the unit could be presented.
So our desire to actually see zweihanded would be accomplished.

What would be nice if some of the Non pike and shot infantry models/textures be spruced up with a little more "something" to distingish them from all basically looking like seried rank of musketeers.

For example the Spanish Colenella have bucklers clearly visible fronting the pikes.

If say, highlanders or rodelero models/textures had a few bucklers spliced in, or if bardiche halberd/shot units (ie polish haiducks or strelets) had some pointy looking objects jutting up from the front ranks., would be a nice bit of flavor.
