2D Art Graphs

Post by Alma69 »

Do you guys plan to update those.
Seams like many of the units lack they proper pictures. They use some generic pic, sometimes even from quite other type of formation. Putting bigger resolution graphs on detailed screen would be better too.

I understand that 3D graphs are lets say poor and expensive to do, but in game like this at least fine 2D art is needed to move our imagination. Or even you know, to know what unit really is, not everyone have much knowledge about period.

The game has over 200 unit types in it. It was not economically viable for a niche game such as this to have separate unit portraits for each unit type. The unit icons are therefore intended to give the player at-a-glance unit function information, not to be a representation of that specific unit.

You guys are too greed then. I can give you contacts to fine artist that would make tiny low res graphs like this for very cheap.
Benefits of fine 2d graphs would be really big for immersion and success of a whole line of this product.
Cost-benefits wise is like no brainer. No one would pull a finger at you for not having super duper 3d graphs if you would have at least fine 2d art.

Even not payed mod teams in many games do better in things like that.
200 is not that much as its sound like for this low res graphs. Besides of course, there are units and units. More important ones and less.
Landknechts or Rodoleros for example should have their own graphs, as Polish Winged ones, I would say. You know those don`t even have to be super historically accurate, detailed and stuff, as its not right now, but you need something.

How about DLC with fine art? For those who want to pay for looks.

It would certainly be possible for anyone with the time, inclination and ability to a make a mod with new unit icon graphics. In order for us to make it available for in-game download, the art would need to be original rather than copied from the internet as that would cause copyright issues.

You mean that someone will mode it for free, for you?
Or that you made paid DLC and share income with author?

Richard means that to be able to sell an art pack DLC, the art work should be all original so that there aren't any copyright issues.

For a free user mod, it is less strict but it is still best practice not to blatantly copy.

Its not sounds like jomni. "mod" and "in-game download" sound like they just wait for some enthusiastic modder to do their job for free.
My wife is an artist, she even declared willing to do some pictures, but you know, shes not that fan of a game as I am.

Your questions have been asked and answered. If you have a business proposal then please send a PM to RBS for his consideration. Reading your childish insults to the game designer and publisher is very tiresome and not productive at all.

Answer is obviously not clear enough, as I and jomni, we see very different things in it.
What is really childish is your assumption that my intend was to insult anyone.

And I don`t seen any RBS around either, so not sure who are you talking about.

We do not currently have any plans to create a DLC with individual unit icons for all the unit types.
