Landing Craft

Post by HobbesACW »

Hi folks, I've played through the game as both sides so started to play a different game. I was missing it though so came back to play Erik's Betio Island scenario (which I can get to work - can't get Erik's single player campaign to work anymore). I landed as instructed by the scenario notes only on beaches and ports and got my ass kicked. I started the scenario again and decided landing was a bad idea - so now I am just sailing around the island in my landing craft shooting everything up. My landing craft are immune to most of the units onshore (apart from the large gun emplacements that I dealt with pretty quickly). Being immune to attack they eventually destroy all Japanese units near the coast - why bother to land? This seems a pretty big problem with the game. Surely units in landing craft should lose supply each turn they don't land + maybe should take hits from units in hexes adjacent to the coast? The landing craft only have fairly small caliber weapons - so why do they not take fire themselves? I have no reason to land until I have decimated the Japanese forces. Not right is it.
