For Erik IMPHAL-KORMNIA 1944 or however you spell it

Post by SSLConf_Yolo911 »

First I'd like to say that I would not be able to figure out the editor or how to make a scenario myself. I wish I could because I think I could make one that was balanced and fun to play.

SO thanks for making some. But the Imphal - Ko whatever might be balanced a little better. There is an enormous amount of useless Japanese aircraft. They can't even shoot down themselves let alone an American plane. So why have so many on both sides.? The Americans are bombing the Jap troops out of existence and the American ground troops don't have to fire a shot.

It might be better to have an equal fighting force on both sides to begin with, then see who is a tactically better player. I don't know how long now I have been moving Jap ships to the south but is seem like 20 turns and they still aren't close to being in the battle.

I can't buy new troops because they start so far way it is pointless. And I just bought a new fighter for 100 resource points but it won't let me deploy it anywhere. And when I try to sell it back I can only get 20 resource points.

Yeah, I am whining but it is pretty frustrating. I would reduce the number of planes on both sides, start with equal abilities for each force and move the units, especially the ships closer to the action to start with. I think it would make for a more enjoyable experience for both players.

Thanks

First, are you sure you mean the Imphal-Kohima scenario? That is a pure land battle (you mention Japanese ships moving south).
I suspect you may refer to Papua New Guinea... Port Moresby and Gili-Gili objectives?

Yes, I was just about to go back in and correct that. It is Papua New guinea that I was referring to. Sorry.

That one Imphal-Kormina 1944 seems balanced so far. I'm playing it with CZero but after a few turns we had to suspend it because when I try to end my turn nothing happens. I have to exit to desktop and then it says it is my turn again, but all of my moves are not there and I have to start the turn over, so something I broken

OK, you were probably playing an early version of Papaua. I tend to update my scenarios fairly often, player feedback being the main reason.
So it always pays to check if there's a newer version before you post a challenge. Papua is now at v6.6

Changes in Papua:

Conversation with Brenmusik, early version
"Added more Japanese fighters" :) now to wipe those Allied bombers from the sky
I added those fighters as a courtesy to you. The Japanese bombers got a real beating last time.
And these new fighters were available at Lae, Truk and Rabaul, so why not let them join the fun.

v6.x
The Japanese may deploy purchased units at the northernmost town on Papua. No more long sea voyages, unless you want to send additional troops to Gili-Gili.
(you could deploy air units at Papua air fields in all versions).

Updated to v6.5
Re-deployed Allied & Japanese air & naval units. The scenario should be better balanced now (a bit easier for the Japanese).
Added a couple of subs to each side.
All air units except recon are now core-units.

v6.6
Added the second Port Moresby airfield, they now have the proper names Kilakila AF and North AF.
Reduced Allied supply at Port Moresby, the Allies now need to put the supply ships to use.
Extended the Kokoda track all the way to Port Moresby.
Added Japanese engineer unit to the Gili-Gili force.

I'm currently involved in two games as the US.
I hold my own in one game, have lost Gili-Gili and may loose Port Moresby in the other. So I think balance is about right now.
That said, the Japanese is surely the most difficult side to play.

Hope this helps

I actually do try to keep up with all the post for this game. I saw that some changes had been made. But I assume each time you have to start over.

Thanks for your reply. I will see if I can get another opponent and try this one again. Something I would change if I could would be to extend the road for the Japs. It is one long hike for them to reach Port Moresby and they are at zero efficiency when they get there, especially after being bombed the for 20 turns. or make all of the units Marines so they have a chance to survive and keep some efficiency.

The road now goes all the way to Port Moresby :D
It won't be a walk in the park. The Japanese need to get the artillery forward, rest often and not attack while their efficiency is in the red.
CZero is doing exactly that in the game that I'll probably lose as the US (and the track is not extended to PT in our version).

BTW, CZero and I also had Imphal crash on us. I haven't been able to find anything iffy with this scenario yet.

Great! Thanks for the reply. Glad the road goes all the way thru now. I will try to get an opponent for Papua and start a game.

Erik ,one other thing. Does the strategic map work for you in Papau New Guinea?

No, it is currently broken
I think the devs are trying to get out a hot-fix next week.
