Unit specification

Post by ptje63 »

I would welcome a mod in which present units can be subdivided in smaller / differing units. For example: I buy a tank unit, a Pz. Mk.1. Which in facts consists of 10 tanks. Gaining a star raises it to max 15. When Pz. Mk. 2 becomes available I can upgrade all or a few. This way a corps/army reflects a mix of units instead of uniform. Which would be more true to realilty. Damage to unit by enemy would therefore be inflicted to weakest part of corps/army. By 1942+ it can consist of 4+ several Panzers mk's. Or has this been suggested/ discussed elsewhere?

You can simulate mixed units fairly easily by creating a new unit (eg Panzer 1B/2C) and putting in appropriate stats. It's not too hard to come up with a mix of stats: For tanks, for example, initiative mainly relates to the ability to engage effectively at a distance so you'd probably pick the higher value, but attack values would be more or less the average of the lot (since only some of the vehicles can engage early). Defence would probably be an average, fuel and ammo the lowest (since once one part of your unit runs out the rest have to hang around). It would also be sensible to modify the upgrade path for the affected units so that you can upgrade directly from Panzer 1 to mixed unit to Panzer 2. This wouldn't get your Panzer 1's killed off first (which is almost certainly outside the game engine's capability - and I'd want to target the more dangerous tanks first), but it would cover the intent of what you suggested.

The French 47mm AT gun was similar or slightly better than the 47mm mounted on the Panzerjager 1, so really should be SA3 and HA10 or 11, but there weren't very many available and they were often mixed with the 25mm (though these were also in short supply). The stats in the game are about right for a unit with a mix of 2x25mm for every 47mm.
