Editor Crashes after adding scripts

Post by terrys »

The Editor (and game) works fine ........ until I add a script.
Whenever I add a script and save the map then try to reload it I get the following error:
"W40kEditor.exe has stopped working"
and
"Access violation reading location 0x4 (0)"

As a test I tried loading one of the campaign scenarios (containing a script) into the editor - then just saved it back in the same location.
I then tried reloading it and got the same error.
If I recopy the original .WHSCN file over the saved one I can then reload it into the editor without a problem. (I made a backup before I started)

Whenever I create one of these unreadable files, I get a 'Fatal Application Error' whenever I run the game and go 'to Scenarios'.

The error.log is as follows:
VER:1
PLATFORM: WINDOWS
CPU String: GenuineIntel
Stepping ID = 4
Model = 10
Family = 6
Extended model = 1
CLFLUSH cache line size = 64
APIC Physical ID = 2

Cache Size = 256K
Found DirectX Version Number: 4.09.00.0904

MIS: Found DD
MIS: IsHW
MIS: SetCoop
MIS: Done Init 3D Device

Any help would be appreciated

I don't think I've ever run into that issue. I fired up the editor just now and added a script to an existing scenario to see if I could replicate what you are describing, but it seemed to work just fine. I can't read error codes like that myself though, but I'll try and figure out what you were doing.

The first obvious question is 'what script did you add?' Just adding anything to see if it would stick, or were you trying to do something specific. Hex action, param action, and unit action are... fickle... sometimes. Were you trying to invoke one of them? Did you try adding different scripts and regardless of what they were, and they all caused the same problem?

Let me know, I'll try diagnose the problem if I can!

It doesn't matter what script I add it still crashes the editor when I try to reload it.
I tried another script just now.
Instantly .... game turns 1 to -1 ..... if attackers unit total is more than 0 ........... change all defender units to attacker.
Pretty basic really.
I saved the game, tried to reload it and the editor crashed again.

My son, who also has a copy of this game tried to do the same and got the same problem !!
I'm not sure what version of Windows he's using, mine is Windows 7, 64 bit
I'm running version 1.08 of 40k Armageddon (not sure which version of the editor that gives me).

As I previously mentioned...
To verify that I wasn't entering something illegal, I've tried loading an existing scenario. Then saving it under the same name in the same place (Steam/steamapps... etc.) - It still crashes the editor when I try reloading it.

Wow that is highly unusual and definitely does not affect me like it seems to be happening to you. :?:
I'll pass this along best I can.

Well the good news is I found your problem, or at least I was able to re-create it. :P
