Pursuit and Terrain

Post by meledward23 »

Simple Question, I think. Occured in a game last night, very late and I have not had time to consult the rules again. (Yes, that is my half lame, I am too lazy to look this up). Actually we did look last night, but did not see anything specifically. (Could have been the fact taht it was 1:00AM.

Cavalry,Drilled,Lancer,Swords vs MF,IF,Sword.

The MF are directly in front of a Rough Hill. Partially in it. The Cav charged the front rank. Impact fought outside of the Terrrain. MF rout directly through the rough terrain and the Cavalry persue.

The point in question is

1) that the CAv would persue into terrain they don't like?
2) that you adjust persuit and rout distances as Unit Type is affected by the terrain type (IE Cav dropped to 3MU instead of 5MU, +VMD)

In this case it actaully worked to the Cav's advantage as the persuit into the terrain took them out of a flank charge by my Ellie's.

Please excuse Meleward23, we gamed till 2 and work came early.

The Cavalry did not really benefit as they went from the frying pan into the fire.
In the open they would have been flank charged by the elephants but there were supporting units that would have in turn flanked the elephants.
Pursuing into the rough terrain on the hill got them disrupted and stuck in combat with more of his light saber wielding led Legionarii who broke the Cav as the MF rested and watched.

Rereading pages 40,41,101,107 and 108 seems to say that the figures opinion of specific terrain pieces doesn't matter but that :

"Pursuers can choose to stop at the edge of any terrain that would severely disorder any of their bases", bottom left of 108 . Nothing on non-severe disorder.

"lower move distance applies to the whole move if any part of any base of the battle group is in distance-reducing terrain at any stage of its move", last bullet on page 40.

"Pursuers make a variable movement distance roll and adjust their move accordingly", 5th bullet on page 101.

I would like to thank mw23 for the enjoyable game and for forcing me to read the rules.
May it pay off for us in Birmingham.
