Terrain Tiles

Hi,
Yet another silly question on my part. If I wanted to edit the terrain base tiles, which approach is correct?
Do I copy the folder of terrain tiles to my campaign folder and edit the tga files there? If so, where in the campaign folder should the tiles folder be placed?

Or

Do I add tiles in the existing tga's and update the list of available tiles? If so, is there a preferred way of doing that?

The idea of course is to not adversely affect any of the existing tiles for the standard campaigns. Thanks.
