Another impact question

Post by Montagu »

Sorry if this has been answered 300 times. I couldn't find it.

My EL charged a 4 wide cav unit at such an angle that with the stepping forward my 2 EL were only touching 2 of his cav bases. The angle was such that the EL bases were in front of 3 of his bases. Including the effect of EL vs Cav, was it correct that he should for 2 bases? That is I would have rolled 4 dice for my EL and he 3 for his cav?

Thanks in advance!
Monty

In Impact you pair up with his bases, so only 2 Cav would fight, one per Ellie.

Both sides always count the same number of bases at impact. The side with the lower number of bases in contact must fight with those bases, the side with the higher number of bases in contact chooses which of his bases he wishes to fight with (it can make a difference).

In the example you described both sides roll for 2 bases so 4 dice.

but the cavalry are disordered by the elephants so only 3 dice.

True and if elephants are disrupted or either side fragmented....

Both sides in an impact always start with the same number of bases fighting. The actual number of dice rolled can vary but the starting point is always equal bases. You cannot gain an advantage by charging at a clever angle like you can in some other rulesets.
