Avalon Hill
Anyone else get the whole 3rd Reich and Hitlers War flashbacks when playing this game?

I first became quite active playing Strategic Command for the exact same reason.
When they went to tiles in SC2 though it killed the illusion off.
CEAW though did a fine job of giving me what I thought might have happened in SC2.
Only thing missing of a critical nature is the inability to stack units in a hex.

CEAW & A.T.
Comparing the games is a bit like comparing oranges and mandarins. (not apples in this case, as they're closer...)

In terms of Joe98's question, I find CEAW tends to slug it out in a direct fight. A.T. will try and outflank and cut my supply line before encirclement.
Both good games...but I guess I'm a little disappointed by the difficulty in creating scenarios other than what shipped with CEAW. For example, Napoleon was packaged as a new game; but such variations are being pushed out by fans as a mod with A.T. In terms of my current playing time it's probably 65%AT vs 35%CEAW.
CEAW kinda feels half way between SC1 and SC2.

Well...I have been playing this game basically nonstop for about a week now, and I took out my A3R map and hung it on the wall in front of me. So there is some indication of the "Avalon Effect." I also went kicking around looking for my old Panzer General and Steel Panther games...for a minute...and then it was back to CEAW.
There is a lot of the feel of the old 3R in this game. Hexes certainly add to the nostalgia. The manual is a little vague, but anyone with any experience with board wargaming shouldnt have much trouble. Thankfully!
I have been playing a head-to-head marathon iron man game with a buddy via tcpip and it has been a nerve-wracking nail-biting blast! In fact, I am writing this under the heavy duress of sleep deprivation, so.....!
All I know is that this game has given me a whole new desire for pretzels!

I have myself been playing quite a lot of Commander Europe at War TcpIP games also, most of them lasting many hours and enjoying it.
Would be nice to see if some ppl could write an AAR on forum (you know the ones where you write like a diary or short summary of how the game went and so on) to display how the game is played Human to Human. I play with a limited crowd and it is interesting to see how the game evolve in a different group of players

It has been many years since i last played A3R.....and fond memories they are !! CEoW recreates some of the excitement of the classic grand strategy A3R brought to the table. I have been playing tcp/ip with my brother, another AH throwback grog, and the entertainment value is off the scale. Fingernails beware!!
Having said that, a feature that i would love to see in CEoW is Diplomacy. Can the Allies pressure Italy to remain neutral? Are Axis diplomats persuasive enough to bring the Balkan countries to their cause earlier? Is the Russian bear open for an early entrance, or can the Germans postpone them? Can the isolationists in America be coerced into developing more anti Axis sentiment? The presence of a Pro-Axis/Allied Turkey and/or Spain would certainly change strategies for both sides. The possiblities are wide open and would make for an even richer game experience.
