How can I make the square map of Hexes into a Quad?

Post by RoyalBlue »

I know this is a 2d based game but I was wondering if there was anyway I could make the square for mods into a quadilateral /=\ like that instead of |=|. So essentially it makes it either *fakes* a 3d looking shape or if it was possible to use a 3D generator to make the tiles 3D or maybe take it a step further and make the hexes smaller as they go further back? Also I assume that I can add animations to sprites as for action sequences in the game? Basically I want to show a 2D side scrolling one side against the other going back for miles. If anything I would appreciate changing the map outline to a quad if possible?

I think hex-grids are hard-coded, unfortunately. You can easily change the image of a hex into a square outline, but you will get a very odd-looking map.
