I dislike MP QUITTERS

Post by operating »

Please don't enter into a MP match, then 19 turns later QUIT, that annoys the hell out of me, and I'm sure it does to the vast majority of the MP players. The game has been stable through the 1.60 beta and 1.62 patches, unlike prior patches where the game CTD often making an MP match unplayable to continue. If you want to quit: At least let your opponent know why? By email, PM or in game chat. Other-wise it's pure ignorance. I hate getting messages like the one posted below:
Commander The Great War Game Over (CroatShade) (1914) (19) 

Dear operating

The following game has completed

Opponent: CroatShade

Could you join the Matrix CTGW forum? I'll pm you there or visa-versa.

I've had the same issues as in your post, however I've gotten used to it, for a variety of reasons: In the past a number of games could not be continued because of CTDs, very legit, some might lose their computer, (it could burn out, happened to me about a year ago), get misplaced, or lose their internet connection for short or extended times (pay your bills stupid), or be just plain chicken chit, ect., ect., ect.. So I have learned to live with it and at least make an attempt to pm. ect. to rectify the problem, some just need a little prodding to get on the horse and ride it and wish them the best, but for all "curtousy" (sp?) to fellow members goes a long way...

To take matches off the MP list contact Slitherine or Matrix with a request, a fella named Paulo will usually contact you by email, tell him the situation, he will verify, then delete those PITA matches, plus he will let you know it was done. By the way save his email address for you will need it for later. Paulo is listed in the game credits screen, he's good.

It's like this: At the Matrix forum you can have it set up "in your account" to have notifications sent to your Homepage mailbox (in my case it is Yahoo) that you have pm (s) (and from whom) at the Matrix forum waiting to be read, ALSO, you can set up your account for subscriptions (in this case CTGW) to send notifications of all posts to the CTGW forum to your email account (it's fairly simple to do). It's something I have not been able to do with my Slitherine account. So when you turn on your computer, up pops your Homepage, BANG! Right there in your mailbox is a number indicating how many messages are waiting for you. Instead of having to go to each specific forum to see if there are any messages there or posts, such as you have to do here. In game chats have their limitations. Let's say you are going away for a vacation or whatever, it's simple to pm at Matrix knowing the message is going to show up in your opponents mailbox, You cannot do that here. If I am wrong, correct me!

Besides all that: The Matrix Forums are easier to read than squinting to read stuff here....

The Matrix forums are a pain. The security verification image for login is pointless and extremely annoying. The theme is just ugly. So I only use it when I have to. And I get emails for posts here in Slitherine CtGW.

I don't know about you! But once I'm logged in at Matrix CTGW Forum (with always logged-in checked), I go to Favorites, then click "Add to Favorites" . Same thing as my previous post: turn on computer, homepage, then favorites, BANG!!! The Matrix Forum site in all it's Glory, No security crap, it's right there to view. A "NO Brainer"!

Try the subscribe button at the bottom of the page when at the base CtGW forum. And the Matrix theme is still ugly.

You have a right to your opinion, some people like red more than blue.

I just checked out that button you suggested. It's not the same as when you set up an account (the user account get's a lot more details and selections to preference). Since you cannot join the forum, you would not see this. Wait a minute! I just thought about it.... You posted at the Matrix CTGW forum, so you must have an account there, otherwise you would not be able to "post", only be a guest.

Yes, I have an account there. I'm not understanding your last message. And I was talking about the subscribe button in the Slitherine forums.

OK, At the top of the Matrix CTGW forum there is a slew of buttons there (top right), hit the subscription button, then a screen opens up with boxes to be check marked or not for all the different forums to subscribe to, I did not go to the bottom of that screen to see if there was an "apply" button for the checked subscriptions, however I am sure there is such.

I see what you are talking about now.... But it only subscribes to this one thread, instead of the "whole forum", which to me: Is rather limited in scope ! Whereas a Matrix forum subscription covers the whole forum checked off in your subscription list.

Matter=o=fact I have had subscripted threads here but were a PITA to use, plus there was never any "notification" to my email account that let me know if there had been any activity at my subscription, which is all done for you at the Matrix forum (if you set it up that way, you have choices to do so or not).

I get email notifications for every new post in Slitherine CtGW. You can't click the button inside a thread. You have to click it in the main area.

I've gone to Slitherine , "manage subscriptions" in user control panel, but find no path to set the account to send email notifications, for that matter a list of forums is not displayed. If you don't mind, give me directions where to go and you will have my thanks.

Go to the base CtGW forum and click the subscribe button. You should then see that you are subscribed to CtGW in the user profile, and start getting messages. Screenshot at https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9_ds1 ... sp=sharing
