i'm not an expert on galatians but i rather suspect most galtian troops were clothed and even armoured infantry. the galatians were a gallic people who had migrated into asia minor and were kicking up a fuss for the hellenistic greeks..

the naked gallic warriors were the gaesati a warrior elite/cult who mainly figured in northern italy against the early roman republican armies.

when i did my gaesati i used semi naked corvus belli figures painted slightly differently. although i think donnington might do some naked gallic figures.

dave.

Corvus Belli and Xyston are both VERY nice, much better than Donnington, Essex etc. But I think they do all have their clothes on. I am using them as Galatians though

Woad is a fairly widespread plant across Europe and Asia and may well have originated in what we now call Turkey and was the main blue dyestuff until indigo arrived from the East in larger quantities in the 12th century. Nothing to say the Galatians might not have used it, they certainy had access to it!

Feudal Castings make Galatian foot warriors wearing a mix of Gallic and Greek armor and kit. It looks very nice and is perhaps a bit more likely than nude Galatians.

The figures are 1-2 mm taller than Essex and average proportions. They'd probably go well with Donnington.

Old Glory sells a bag of 15mm naked Gauls. I painted a bag to use as my Gaesati in "another" game system.

I used a mix of Essex, Chariot and Xth Legion for my naked Galatians. I am planning to have clothed warriors in the rear ranks (which are actually Germans BTW). I particularly liked the Xth Legion, but I have no idea whether they are still made. Gladiator used to sell them. Galatians were nice in DBM with a swarm of allied Paionian Psiloi. Bit less LF nowadays, though. I'll try them out vs Alexander tomorrow.

Corvus Belli does have a pack of naked Gauls. I have not seen them in the actual metal, but I have some of their other Gauls, which are quite nice.

Gladiator told me about a year ago that the Xth Legion designer went to work for Wargames Foundry IIRC and a condition of this was that all his previous work had to be destroyed. So there are no Xth Legion masters or moulds any more. A pity because I particularly liked them too.
