Difficulty levels: What is the difference between them?

I am playing on level 3, "Captain".

I wondered what is different on Lieutenant or the higher levels? The income per turn seems to be the same at least.

You face stronger enemy units. The AI has 8 strenght units at level 2, 10 strenghts at level 3 then 12 (level 4) and 13 at level 5.
