Eternal Empire tournament - recruitment - 2 players needed!
I have decided to run an Eternal Empire-themed tournament restricted to the time period of Tamerlane-ish in the absence of Digital League for the time being. This tournament is similar to previous tournaments run by myself. I am aiming to get 24 players for this tournament but will run it with anywhere's between 20-32 players.
Players of ALL skill levels are welcome. In fact, one of the initial purposes of these tournaments is to get new players experience against the best players to help make them better.
If you would like to participate, please read the rules below and then post that you would like to participate.
Important dates:
- April 16: pool stage begins (arrange your own matches via thread and PM)
- May 1: players who have not completed at least 2/8 matches subject to review and possible replacement by player from reserve
- June 4: pool stage ends (you have 8 weeks to complete 4 mirror matches; if all are complete before this date, we will begin quarter-finals earlier)
- June 5: quarter-finals begin
- June 19: semi-finals begin
- July 3: finals begin
Structure of tournament:
- There are 4 pools of 5 players each (well, there will be)
- Each player will be assigned a random army from a select list of Eternal Empire armies but are allowed to veto one army
- You will play each player in your pool once in a mirror match, one with your drawn army, one with your opponent's drawn army
- 3 pts awarded for win, 1 pt awarded for draw of any sort (e.g. if you win both games in your mirror match, you receive 6 pts)
- Top 2 players in each pool advance to quarter-finals
- Quarter-finals/semi-finals/finals all decided by mirror match where combined scores decide winner on percentage (e.g. if player A's combined BPs for both matches is 93/100 (93%) and player B's is 70/76 (92.1%), player B is victorious)
- Games not completed by deadlines are subject to adjudication
Arranging matches:
- Players are responsible for arranging matches
- Post challenge in this thread AND PM to ensure your opponent saw it
- It is advised to begin at least 2 mirror matches against 2 opponents immediately to ensure players have head start on pool stage deadline
Rules of games:
- Armies will consist of 500 pts
- You may customize your army before each match
- Fog of war and double moves will be used
- Digital League rules on army size/composition do not apply
Posting results:
- Winners of each individual match are responsible for posting result in this thread; I will periodically update the results table
- Please use this format:
Pool A result:
Tamerlane (Timurids) 30/45 defeats Bayezid (Ottomans) 50/50

- This tournament will count towards ratings and rankings used by the Digital League
- This tournament is considered a B-level tournament.

Yep, count me in too - no veto.
Jon, you're doing a great job in keeping up interest and enthusiasm in FOG while we wait for the new version!
I've been overseas for a while, but when I get back I intend to run a tournament of my own, which might begin around the time this tournament's pool stage ends. In brief, my idea is:
* Large armies (around 600 to 800 points, I haven't quite decided), which will allow for the large maps that most of us haven't played on very much.
* Armies from all 5 books (or at least the most popular ones), picked from a menu I'll provide, with players bidding for the ones they want. Highest bidder wins the army they've bid for, with the bid then constituting a BP penalty against them in all games. Each game will have a "spread" (to use the sports gambling term), equal to one side's bid minus the other side's bid, with the higher-bid army having to cover the spread. This will hopefully allow for a mix of good, average, and poor armies, being balanced out by the BP penalty the better armies will attract.

Please count me in Jonathan, thanks for organizing
-- I am one of those players that really appreciates tips from my superiors... but ones like "don't present your back" are obvious and more a testament of their tactical skill
I am exceptionally weak at this book, much better with IF and other ancients.... well no one is weak with the Catalans or Iberian Kingdoms

I'll give her a go. Time to finally get EE I guess.
Damn, I wanna be the Hussites SOOOOOO much, just to annoy everyone.
Seriously, think maybe we might exclude them? They are playing a different game.

I considered excluding the Hussite but where's the fun in that. Plus, I figured if a player really didn't want them, they could veto them.

What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

Re: Eternal Empire tournament - recruitment
Update to competitors: tournament will still begin tomorrow with some empty spaces for any late joiners. I will adjust dates and format accordingly.
If we only get 16 players, everyone will advance to playoffs to make sure everyone gets some good competitive matches in. It is still best to do well in the pool stage so you don't face as strong of an opponent in the first round.
