Vietnam'65 Update / Patch

Post by Every Single Soldier »

We are currently working frantically to release an update to V65, items we are going to include are the following:

1. Fog of war , map tiles out of detection ranges will be 'greyed out'
2. Weather , rain will effect combat and Airstrike availability , three day weather forecast on Intel map
3. Villages will have names
4. Player can name US bases and units
5. Combat modifiers to include weather, supply status, proximity to friendly units
6. Custom game option , player can set variables for custom game incl. victory conditions, enemy aggression etc
7. Hex overlays on both maps
8. UI improvements - upgrade on deselect function, Action buttons for selected unit to move to bottom of screen as opposed to being clustered around the unit, helps with tile selection and panning

Update is 2 to 3 weeks away, will update on timing as and when.

Thanks for all the support.

I hope the hex overlay works with a toggle switch, because some people (myself included) really don't like staring at hex outlines when they don't absolutely need them for counting ranges

Perhaps the visible FOG should be on a toggle.

One of the things that always has me biting my nails, and that I really like about the game, is that in its current state what you see may not be what you actually get. If there is no visible reminder that a hex is under FOG, you sometimes forget and fly too close to the tree line, and an RPG-toting squad jumps out and takes a pot shot at you. No visible reminder of FOG probably increases the immersion. It's good to be under the illusion that a road is clear when it's not.

I get the point but nothing really changes, it just shows you where your detection radius is, with or without it the same result will be achieved.

Thanks, I was starting to worry about what the Fog of war was going be like, since we already have it. Seems more like More like ZOC highlighted, which I likey.

ZOC has blighting would be a better label, working very well in current trial, it's not a black out its a greying out :)

I like the look of the map and think the shroud could detract from it; I also agree with Philippe, I often forget about the detection ranges and plow forward recklessly. However your design decisions have been top notch so far, so I will trust y'all on this....

I am curious how weather will actually affect airstrikes. As it stands, there is already a five turn delay timer on available airstrikes. So if the bad weather occurs during the five turn delay, does the timer stop and then resume when the weather clears or does the timer continue during bad weather and your airstrike would only be delayed if on the first available day, the weather is still bad?...I hope it is the latter situation as I would not like to see the timer constantly stalling because of the weather, when in actuality, preparations can still be occurring...

Airstrike timer never stops, but if bad weather cannot execute, remember as you gain rank your access to air strikes increases to once a turn as a general ...

Weather also slows movement down for all units and effect combat as a modifier.

Thanks for the reply, and though I know that the timer can decrease, my poorly executed veteran games have not warranted such rewards yet....this is one hell of an addicting game which has caused me to ignore all my other apps!
