Sorry to said that but this battle show how this game is non historical.
I'm currently playing this battle again an other player.
for the French the spanish Tercio are like butter.
nothing to do with real battle.

look like the french infantry is like the revolutionary army .... 150 years latter....

Unlike most of the scenarios, where the AI side has a significant advantage in points, the forces in the Rocroi scenario are about equal (in points). In hindsight the historical numbers should have been tweaked a bit to make things more difficult for the French. The Spanish tercios are very good, but they are expensive in points and it is easy for the French to grind them down by weight of numbers.

Of course, in the historical battle the French did win, but it took rather longer. However, everything in Pike & Shot is accelerated to make a more interesting game. If firefights took several hours to resolve, players would get bored.

Of course in SP mode, if you feel that the French are over-rated and the Spanish under-rated, you can easily tweak the scenario to make the French slightly less effective and the Spanish slightly more effective by playing it on Captain General difficulty (the top level). Unfortunately you cannot do this in MP mode.

They are only powerful at impact (and not as powerful as Salvo foot). For this they pay the penalty of having reduced close range shooting. In melee they fight the same as other foot.

This is because of the French national infantry doctrine of the time which favoured a rapid advance to close combat.

put versus the spanish they have the same shooting result and versus the austrian they have allways a better result melee.

normaly, the biggest french advantage is mobility but we don't see that in this game
