"Pulsating Pin" in BA2

I've come across this in several MP skirmishes - a slender column with a pulsing orange sphere on top. In the skirmish I am playing at the moment, when you cursor over this object (which also has a unit sitting in the same square) it reads: "pulsating pin." Just exactly what is its function? (Besides baffling us.) Thanks!

Errrrrr. No idea! Let me take a look and see what I can find out. My guess is that it's something to do with the map pin system, but why it would show up in skirmish I don't know!
