CAT and CACS

Post by bertiebeemer »

Hello

I'm afraid that this will be one of many questions from me on transmogrifying old armies from a dim and distant past, er, game into FoG ones. Really they'll be about the number of bases needed, and whether I have to get some more done up (oh dear) or have some spare ones to sell off (who hoo!). Not about ultra-competitive lists and the like, but about getting a really nice looking (prioirty 1) and usable (priority 2) army on the table.

I have a couple of unexpected spare slots with a painter so I have a couple of possibilities. One of them is CAT and CACS which under the, er, older lists I have were kind of interchangeable in part. I have a whole bunch of CAT lead from Outpost and am still trying to chivvy along Eureka with their CACS range.

Enough intro, the meaty questions:

Any idea on the book and timescale for the official lists for these?

And any rough pointers on how many bases of the CAT and CACS might be needed?

I have enough CAT for the following bases (assuming similar numbers of figures to the base as, er, in the past):

the generals
8 Armoured Cavalry
18 Horse Archers
?? foot archers (32 figures in total, so perhaps 4 LF and 8 MF ??)
8 foot spearmen

No CACS as yet but it should be plenty of armoured Cav, some LH and some foot rubbish.

Thanks in advance for any help (also including the suggestion to do some other list!)

It would help if we knew what CAT and CACS stood for.

Yeah, I know Central Asian Turks and Central Asian City States, but it took a bit of working out.

CAT are in the Byzantine book out this Autumn. CACS may take a while.

Pretty common usage amongst players of a rule set you co-authored  SW Doubles must have been more a backwater than I thought

However, not that informative for those not in the know.

Western CATs anyway.

Ah well, a long wait then to get a proper list sorted.

In the meantime though can anyone enlighten me on how many stands of the Central Asian Turkish and the Sogdian armoured cavalry and Light Horse might be prudent to get, so at least I can get painting underway??

In my lead box I have CAT figures for about 10 stands of 3 figures.... And have kind-of-ordered 28 stands of the Chakar Sogdian cavalry from Eureka...

And I have 18 stands of CAT Light Horse (36 figures, one as a general) and have asked Nic for 8 stands of CACS Light Horse...

Thanks in advance

Simon
