Great game, but it stalls mid due to OP defense

Post by snakeboy »

Hello, I picked this game up on the holiday-sale and I like to leave some feedback. I couldn't find a game balance thread so I'm posting it like this.

I like the game overall, love the simple, visual style, the little historical add-on rules and the overall chess-like experience. But I think defense is way overpowered as it is, which causes the game to stall mid-game and just leave you both sitting out turns untill you win by VP (which is fairly easy against AI).

Defense should have a bonus for sure, but if someone has occupied an area with a town and some forest, you are very likely unable to get them out of that place. I tried eliminating 2 allied infantry with a fully stacked german army and was unable to move them, turn after turn after turn.

So here's some suggestion for future games:
- make random attack bonuses, like morale (+10%). Just to give you a little edge, some new impulse when the line has stalled.
- when you have a town almost surrounded, give attack bonuses: for instance, when you occupy two places adjacent to a town, give +5%, when you have 3 give + 15%. I think it's even more realistic like this.

Anyway, looking forward to El Alamein, after having played Drive on Moscow too. Keep up the good work!
